EGS has come a long way from it\'s humble beginings as a poorly drawn gender bender fantasy comic. I feel it\'s at it\'s best when the supernatrual stuff takes a backseat to the slice of life dramady direction the comic seems to have taken since around 2010 onwards.

I don\'t care who the big bad is, I just want to know if Elliot hooks up with Susan.

I have read this comic and I see that the cast was perfectly picked, well studied and researched. You\'ve done a good job....

El Goonish Shive without a doubt has some of the greatest characters ever. They feel so real, like I actually know them. That, combined with some truly unique storylines makes this a must-read!
Fyshsticks 5/5
Never have I seen a better comic. Not only is the story magnificent, but the art makes it so much better. The beginning is a little shaky, but it\'s definitely worth your time to read. Then to reread, maybe 4 or 5 more times
CountofMonteCristo 5/5
My favorite webcomic, period. Not only is it funny, and dramaritic, it also has a very good plot.
Stormblazer 5/5
Excellent comic. It's got some downsides (not least that any furry is an almost guarenteed downside), but the rest of it makes up for it and more. I love the gender-bending theme especially.
Sauratos 5/5
To be honest, the humor in this comic has become somewhat dry lately. It was funny toward the beginning, but now it has moved more toward a drama thing. That's not a bad thing, but don't expect to be laughing a lot when you read this strip.

However, the storyline is very compelling. It covers a lot of topics, so there's something for everyone. The characters are pretty well developed, though it is sometimes difficult to tell the difference between them. They tend to look alike.

But overall, this is a quality comic. You'll probably feel it tug at your heartstrings every now and then.

I've read this comic for over 4 years now... amazingly indepth, more complex than the TF gun's systematics, and has made me cry on more than a few occasions. I habitually read through the entire archive once every 2 months.

...One last thing: when I say cry, I mean it... and no comic moreso than 10/2/2002's

You look in the mirror, but someone else looks back.
You remember a life you never had, one that cannot be yours.
You are the piece that does not fit, you don't belong in this game.
The board has been knocked over, you shall be swept away...
Slade 5/5
A fun goofball comic. If you liked EGS also check out Abstract Gender, Sluggy Freelance, Emergency Exit, Yosh, and Misfile.

Usually I just read a webcomic once from the beginning and I often skip boring parts... But El Goonish Shive was different, I've went through the archives at least 5-10 times and it's still funny. Maybe you won't like the first few comics, but soon you will see, that this comic combines brilliant humor with a even better story line and adorable characters.

Read or the owl will eat you!

This is one of my favorite comics. For many of the same reasons that other people love this comic. I just want to add that this is one of the best representations of teenagerhood I have seen - in any medium. Don't get the wrong idea - this comic is NOT slice-of-life - Dan Shive ignores the laws of physics on a regular basis - among other things. But I think it captures something about being a teenager which most "slice of life" stories about teenagers don't.
whitelynx 5/5
Another of my favorite comics, going on my 3rd year of reading it. Another one you need to read from be beginning. (ignore the lower-quality art at the beginning, it gets better fast)
Stormscape 5/5
I want a transformation gun...
I've read this whole comic so far And I thought that it would make a real interesting Anime and adult swim or something but yeah that would be funny as hell pus The guy could put in alternet stuff and new stuff that would be badass
Ryuujinzenrei 5/5
Nice, fun comic thats easy to read and oddly compelling. Makes gender switching interesting (in case you weren't already interested).

I really enjoy the smooth read of your story lines. The strip rocks heavy ;)
Weeniemann 5/5
Pure, unadulterated awesomeness - all the adultery is thrown into the filler section, which you only have to read if you want to. By far the best webcomic I have ever read through, and I've read through at least 50 different ones.
Oh, for heaven's sake - the word is HAVE, not OF.
Incidentally, I gave it four stars to balance all those who gave it five stars... if everyone else had given it four stars, I would have given it five. It's a mathematical thing, see.
thomsedavi 4/5
This comic is TOTALLY exploiting the whole furry fetish/gender swapping sexual fantasy world... no wonder it's so popular.
DeTaiL 5/5
Reading several years worth of comics in two days is rather unnerving, but seeing as it was this it was a very good choice. I love this comic! The characters are very well developed, and the art is getting rather good (not that it ever wasn't of course). The storylines are excellent, and i have no idea how dan comes up with this stuff...
Holy crap, did i say how good this comic was yet?

p.s ellen needs more panels devoted to her!
Sanchay 5/5
This comic is the start of a mad webcomic frenzy. I now read at least one new comic every day, all thanks to Dan's wonderful comic!
Marko90 5/5
I love this webcomic! It has an engaging plot and delightful characters. It's like an illustrated novel still being written
CK01 4/5
A nice friendly comic, great style in art and writing with an enjoyable cast.

El Goonish Shive is one of comics both original and exceptional
Jennifer Diane Reitz 5/5
One of the finest comics on the web, Dan Shive manages to project a depth of heart and soul into his characters that few artists could even dream of. The artwork is beautiful, manga influenced, but with a unique and personal style, and the sheer amount of effort and attention overall is stunning. Perhaps the best thing I can say about Dan Shive's work is that he makes the reader care, deeply, about his cosmos, his characters, and their happiness. He makes an emotional reality out of an essentially unreal situation, and that is a mirible wonderment.
Illjwamh 5/5
I've been reading EGS since it was only six months old. Since then it's only gotten better. Great characters, great stories, and the art has really become fantastic of late. I foresee myself continuing to read it for years to come.
Seras_Victoria 5/5
Bleh, forgot to rate it.
Very good comic, another recommendation from a friend and I'm glad I could read it.
Donny 5/5
Dan's comic scares the living shit of me. In good way.
CGAdam 5/5
Favorite strip. Amusing cast, myriad exploits, good sized archive, and much character/art development over its run. Updating either in story or filler regularly for a loooong time now (more story than filler). Read, or the owl will eat you.
wtstar 4/5
I used to read this all the time. It's a great comic, but I've stopped. The horrible, absolutely dreadful amount of missed updates and the huge irregularities just drove me to madness- just a pet peeve I suppose.
snoosnoo 4/5
Transformation guns own!
Antoine 5/5
I've been hooked since the beginning. Great stuff.
