Synopsis : Agatha Clay, a fumbling non-spark, grew up in Beetleburg with her mute father and capable mother in a humble mechanics workshop. The story opens on her last day at Beetleburg University which started badly with the loss of her uncle\'s locket through a mugging, a bizzare apparition appearing in front of her in a crowded street, her being chastised for being late and her beloved Spark Teacher, Mr Beetleburg, being killed in front of her while the Baron, a powerful spark himself, Klaus Wulfenbach visited and watched on during a surprise inspection.

The world is one of science, steam and mad geniuses competing with each other to fulfil their dreams of power, genius and the subjugation of reality to their wishes. With sparks, this is not only possible, but frequently achieved.

I really enjoyed this very much, for years, but I think it suffered a little from finally putting Agatha in a position of power. Now it seems to be just about petty aristocrats trying to kill each other and ordering around their minions. That\'s just not my scene.

Well this doesn\'t have a clean sweep of 5 star ratings for nothing!
Just check it out, you won\'t regret it.

Girl Genius, with its sweeping storyline, interesting characters, beautiful artwork, and great sense of humour, is not only the greatest webcomic around, but the greatest piece of science fiction of the 21st century. I\'d even go as far to say it deserves a nobel prize for literature.

Massive backstory. Massive archive. Massively bountiful effort. One of the few webcomics that support the author/artist from dead tree editions of their work.

What can one say, three pages of artwork per week, with colour, plotting, shading and an intricate amusing madly enticing plot for over 5 years, what a monster of reliability is this webcomic.

Just three words: My Favorite Comic.

I\'m not really a fan of the main character BUT having said that, this comic is still extremely good. Great art, great story, good world-building, and great humour.

Double Plus Good. Imaginative, funny, epic. I especially appreciate that the villains are mostly heroes who have lived too long and grown too powerful. This one is tied with Gunnerkrigg Court for the best comic out there.

Amazing webcomic; it shows that the creators have been around awhile - you think the story is losing its way then something really weird happens ( like the Cinderella story - brilliant! ).

Original and creative style; wonderful characters, jägerkin, intelligent and even a little topical - a cast iron, steam powered \'search engine\' makes a brief appearance...

I'm not a great writer, so excuse my poor praise, but this is by far the very best comic I've seen in a long while. The art is excellent, and the plot captivated me. Read it.
Stormblazer 5/5
I'm amazed. I've seen some good webcomics, but this is one of the best. The plot is superb, the characters are very strong with real development, the art, if unusual in some places, is largely excellent, and the humour is well placed.
I'm struggling to find something negative about it, just to say it.
Easily one of the best webcomics I've seen to date.

This is my favorite webcomic. Really.

This "gaslamp fantasy" world is the most imaginative I have seen in any comics, web or printed. The characters are fully-fleshed, the plot is gripping, the humor is wicked, the artwork is amazing ... but what really shoots this comic to the next level is how seamlessly it weaves all of these superb elements together.

Warning : After reading this comic, you might be compelled to buy all of the printed collections (which, thanks to the stupid sales tax, cost me $100)
videobear 5/5
Foglio's a pro with years of experience in print comics. Now he's taken his art to the web, and everyone's richer for it. Read it, plug it, buy the hard copy collections!

There just aren't enough good things to say about Girl Genius. It's funny, exciting, intelligent and witty. The art is beautiful and the stories are great. Read this comic!
