Get The Code

Comic based around a questing Dungeons and Dragons party. Plenty of geeky references to D&D, and silly jokes.

I\'ll have to disagree with people who think only dungeons and dragons players will get the jokes. I\'ve never played that game and I think this comic is hilarious. But I think the most amazing thing in this comic is despite being extremely silly (with stick figure art, constant lampshade hanging, and constant abuse of the fourth wall) it\'s still a very epic story with facinating characters. At least twice in the comic my eyes started to well up because of how sad those two scenes were. Add to that tons of action and suspense, and you got yourself a webcomic like no other.
joeyecw 2/5
I checked it out. While I was impressed by the cartoonist making a success out of a stick figure strip, the comic itself is not my cup o\' tea. I\'m sure the jokes within the strip are funny, but I can\'t understand 90% of them because I just am not that into roleplaying games aside from the standard console fare such as Final Fantasy.

Very narrow market for this strip. If you\'re a huge D&D fan, OOTS is for you. If not, keep looking.

I give it a 2 for maintaining and updating, and for the fact that for the niche audience, this stuff is gold. But I cannot go higher than this, simply because I simply don\'t get the jokes.
dejarnjc 5/5
Biased since this was the webcomic that introduced me to webcomics. That being said, OOTS is not for everyone but damn for those that can appreciate it... it is EPIC. Hilariously funny at the get go, the story becomes more and more the focus as the strips go on. Also, the characters in this strip (bad and good guys) are all very well done.
Entropy 4/5
If you have ever roleplayed (especially D&D 3rd Ed) this comic is a laugh riot through the early years of the strip. Eventually however, he clearly runs out of those sorts of gags and gets involved telling his plot. These portions are much less funny, though they have moments. Also, the \'latest\' link that this site uses is broken or something and loads about 1 out of 100 times. Go to instead. It\'s an extra click (sidebar under comics), but it will load ALOT faster.

Rich\'s comic definitely deserves to be at the top of the heap, so it\'s a good thing that IT IS! Love the writing, the characters, everything, even the tshirts are awesome. Ironically, I found out about the comic a few years ago when a friend was wearing a creature in the darkness tshirt! Love the most recent episode where Haley gives herself a diamond I O ME - check out the hilarious cast page. Thanks Rich, we love it. Keep it coming!!!

unfunny crap. do no want
Guillaume 5/5
OOTS is brilliant! The fact that they are stick figures is pretty cool. I think that it is something that just gives a lot of charm, and makes it better.
Stormblazer 5/5
I'm shocked you consider 8bit theater a "more polished comic." 8bit theater had a good concept, but it repeats the same jokes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. That's not what I call polished, ever.
Errant Story was good, I admit, but then, Errant story wasn't supposed to be a meta spoof the way OOTS was.
afiq 3/5
well isaid it was good but i dont like it so much
Sauratos 5/5
You don't have to know anything about D&D to laugh at this. The artwork is very simple, but it just fits. A lot of humor is mixed in with the action, so there's something for everyone.
Fuu 5/5
Rich really knows D&D, and overall HE knows players. If you have play D&D at least a year this is your webcomic, youíll have to love it. If havenít play, doesnít mater Give it a try! The art is simple, but donít let that fool you, the story is worth it. There is almost no strip that canít make you smile. Some of the jokes are D&D related but a lot are generic. And the most amazing of all, even if this is a humor based comic the basic story has consistency and is interesting per se.
O'Shuva 5/5
Why does everybody keep comparing this to Ctrl Alt Del? Did dice and computers have some kind of falling out? Is it because dice are random and computers aren't? Is this some kind of secret war being waged in dark backstreets between disciples of randomocity and code or something?

So, yeah, anyway, OOTS is pretty fun in a totally meta way. It's recently managed to spoof epic without falling into the same pitholes, so it's well worth looking at, if only to help you decide if you'll side with the Binary Gods in the Secret War.
The Chemist 4/5
good, but drawing style could be improved
Jornak 1/5
The Order of The Stick lacks style. Take a look at the artwork and you'll see very poorly drawn basic shapes. The outlining on the characters always tends to be too thick, and the color choices make it seem more like a pile of shit on fire.

The jokes are often very dry and don't have any substance to them at all, much like Penny Arcade, which uses very direct humor that is often too retarded to understand anyways.

The storylines are too long and too dragged out also.
brown_recluse_gundam 5/5
Amazing! Simply amazing! How this story can be so enterning, funny, and epic in its stick figure form just blows me away. Never did I ever think that I would get excited to see a new comic on my favorites list based on stick figures. A definate must read. It's right up there with 8-Bit Theater and CAD.

oots has my soul.................

Tool. Awesome comic. Best one I've seen yet. Much better then Ctrl+Alt+Del

And don't bash on the art, it is awesome, it gets the point across well. Their have been jokes on the art in the actual comic, it isn't supposed to look really good, it is supposed to look simple, because who could take OoTS seriously?
LTE 4/5
Not always funny, but the story is enough to keep me checking daily.
johankarlsson 5/5
So frickin great comic! keep it up man!
Galaxy 5/5
This comic kick so much ass. All my 5 belong to this comic!
Traitorfish 5/5
This comic smells of awesome. It's pungent and mighty odor fills my nostrils with joy.
This comic is BRILLIANT! The characters are great, the plot is great and I even think the art is great (It's a different style and it's likeable.) The order of the stick is well worth the read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
L'ope 5/5
Amazing. The story ignited and has blazed on with vibrant characters, quirky art styles and a plot that keeps on growing. Funny and you can really feel the bond between the order of the stick's members.
PapaChabre 5/5
This comic proves that good artwork is not as important as good content.
ScordianL9 5/5
This comic deserves 2nd place, right behind crtl+alt+del. It's pretty much the best comic i've ever read: great jokes; perfectly fitting art; and and amazingly story line. The only reason 8-bit theatre scored higher was because it has more violence. Not that TOOTS (the order of the stick, for you slow ones) doesn't have its fair share of it.
Ami 3/5
Iím a bit surprised this comic is so high up the list, but then again I see Fallen around this ranking pretty often and Ctrl Alt Del is perennially at the top so yeah guess itís just the aberrant preferences of the locals,

Far from a bad comic, but a lot of it is old hat with most characters having better counter parts in other (lower ranked in some cases) webcomics. It just feels like an amalgamation of 8 Bit Theater, Nodwick, Errant Story, and the defunct RPG World. Having read the entire archives there are some exceptionally funny strips, but most of them are a bit bland.

The art is also a bit lacking as well. Iím not ripping the artist for choosing the stick figure format, but the format imo lacks some of the charm that would make the art truly enjoyable. That and while there has been artistic improvement over the course of the comic is has been pretty minimal.

Overall, itís an okay read, but it lacks anything truly creative and charming to set it apart from its more polished contemporaries. 3 stars.
Jehackmaster 5/5
I'm hooked! By golly, these things really give you something to look forward too... Give us more! More like this!!!
topazaurelius 5/5
wonderfully funny.
Elder Zap 5/5
The best out there.
Canis King 5/5
This comic is jusy bad ass, and you don't need to pay D&D or other Fantasy games to understand it. Which is a plus. This Comic is one of my top 3 favorites only after PvP online and Penny Arcade
eric_garth 5/5
What can I say?? THIS COMIC IS GREAT!!!!
Godzillasaurus 4/5
This is a really funny comic, but not as much fun if you don't know your D&D. I do, so I love it. Not sure if it deserves a '5' or not, so I'll give it 4.
C@m0 4/5
Its just plain funny in a way anyone can understand
wodan46 5/5
This comic is dedicated to making fun of D&D. Its art is actually quite good and the bright unshaded colors appealing to the eyes.
da beast 4/5
A very good comic! It has a simple drawing style (I mean look at the charicters for crying out loud!) and alot of "in" jokes for D&D fans like myself, but you will still enjoy it if you hate DnD
0joe 5/5
I don't even play d&d, and I found the strip funny. The art fits the story perfectly, and not to mention the characters are funny as hell.
smileyfaceman 4/5
Don't let the artwork fool you, this is a surprisingly funny comic.
thomsedavi 5/5
In the last day I went through at least 50 comics looking for a new one to read, and this was the only good one. Why are there not more comics like this?
ProfParadox 4/5
This was very good, I enjoyed it.
icingsugaraddict 5/5
So overwhelmingly well written, even people who've never roleplayed in their life should check it out. Like me.
Spurn 5/5
I like this comic. The story is great and the art fits the genre!
Gleezus 4/5
I love this comic... it would appear to just be another gaming comic makin' fun of RPGs and D&D, but somehow it sticks out as really good to me... Think of a love child of RPG World and 8-bit Theatre...
