As I think is true for everyone, when I first heard the premise of this comic I thought it was stupid. However, after reading only a couple strips, I was hooked. Probably the best and most consistently entertaining comic out there, which is quite a feat since it has been updated Monday-Friday for years.

Detractors of constraint comics should not judge Dino Comics on its choice of form. The ingenuity of this comic actually comes from its maneuver around and within its formal limitations; and of course, it comes also from the brilliance of whimsical musings on things philosophical, cultural, and semantic. In other words, it\'s probably more of a high-brow Petrarchan sonnet than a sloppily served limerick.

It\'s hard to dislike. The characters feel surprisingly real, for dinosaur clip art.

so it's not for everyone. but Dinosaur Comics is SMART. if you don't mind the recycled artwork and the uber-absurdist, cerebral yet silly humor, you'll find that it can be a darn hilarious webcomic. North is continually playing with the limitations of his chosen format, his decision to recycle the same bare-bones clipart for his comic is seriously gutsy, and the fact that he makes it actually funny is a testament to his writing talent. Dinosaur Comics is all kinds of awesome...well, maybe not ALL kinds, but certainly a whole lot. Several, anyway.

Mad props.
Good writing trumps all. |

Reminds me of 'The Far Side' in minimalist art style and of 'toothpaste for dinner' in general inanity.

I love dinosaur comics. I like how it's intelligent, well-rounded and well-learned, self-depricating, totally random, isn't bitter and doesn't take itself too seriously, it's not preachy, you can relate to all of the characters and you get the feeling that other people who read it are that way too. The fact that the art is the same every time and is just some random mac art pack pic makes it even funnier because of the ways Ryan North uses the space to make so many diferent scenarios play out and just the absurdity of the visual and the personalities of the dinosaurs being so counter-intuitive. Okay, rambling now.

Why the hell does everyone like this crap? I know 8 year olds who could make a better comic.

This is genious. Somehow he is able to take a Mac Art Pack and make it funny as hell. The random humor makes me laugh. "Oh man! Did you just namedrop M.C. MASTUBATION?!?!?!"

ha. its like minimalist art. yeah, you could have done it yourself, but they did it first didn't they?

Truly an epic journy to the deepest reaches of the black world that is the human (or dinosaur) mind. It is amazing what you can do to the dialog of a comic just by getting rid of the art!

quite possibly the most hilarious thing I've ever read.
But then I got a little tired of it. I can only pick it up about once a month. Any more than that is madness. |

Dinosaur Comics is the funniest comic on the internet. I feel sorry for those who do not appreciate its brilliance.

This is totally genius! Along with Bunny this is probably the best and most consistently funny comic on the net.

Brilliant. It's amazing how he uses the same drawings day after day. Except that one with the parralel universe and moustaches. Go T-Rex!

Imaginative, informative, and experimental. Ooh! And it gets extra love for having so many linguistics-related topics. I always look forward to reading it.

Damn you Ryan North and your unabashed brilliance!!

The dialogue is constantly both smart and stupid at once. HARD ON THE EYES, but I never tire of it.

A clever, well-written comic. Frankly I don't give a damn about art myself.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of this, though it does have its moments. It still gets a good rating for being interesting and unique, important attributes in a webcomic universe filled with shitty sprite comics, Penny Arcade clones, and other generic garbage lacking in creativity. Not enough to hold my interest for very long, but worth checking out at least once.

Gotten alot better recently. The writer is a master of dialogue.
I still don't think you can earn a 5-star rating without having to draw at least SOMETHING once in awhile. |

A response really, though Dinosaur comics uses the same art over and over, it is to comics what a haiku or sonnet is to poetry, applying a restriction or set of rules within which the artist can work. It seems to me that it allows the creator the freedom to focus more on the written word which is, in Dinosaur Comics' case, awesome.

I usually care far for for the artwork in a comic when I first read it but I can't stop reading these. I'm not even slightly annoyed that the pictures have never changed. What the hell, I mean its entertainment, pure and simple.

The greatest webcomic ever to grace the Earth.
Really. |

Dinosaur Comics is interesting because it proves that you DON'T need to be an exceptional artist (without resorting to a loathesome sprite comic) to put out an incredibly funny comic strip on a daily basis. Plus it is sexy and exciting.
Me.
|
Every strip in this one is identical (with the art taken from a Macintosh art pak) save for the dialogue, which every so often is intelligently humorous...but text without art is a blog, not a webcomic.
