| This is an awesome comic which shows how a simple style can still prove to be interesting characters and plot points that just make you want to keep reading to figure out what the heck is going on at times. While still a very new comic, it's keeps improving with each update. |

Site:
The site design is very simple and utilitarian. It means that the comics in the archives and on the main page will load very quickly. However, it's very plain. Other sections of the site would be a nice feature to add (such as a cast section, or maybe an art section). Even though the simple design has benefits, it would be nice if there was some more pizzaz to the layout, as well as some rudimentary features added.
Art:
When the comic started to stray away from the regular 4-panel format, the quality greatly increased, however the art before then wasn't bad too look at anyway. The characters are very expressive, and the artist is very willing to change the overall shape of the characters to get the right emotion expressed (exaggeration in animation also utilizes this technique). The character designs are well-done and each character has a unique look, and they definitely pass the "silhouette test".
Writing:
In the beginning, the strip seemed to be attempting to imitate the style of newspaper strips, (especially with the subject matter addressed, such as the repeated coffee jokes). There was also a number of times that the "this comic" setup was used. It's good to use once in a while, but the number of times used in this case got tiring. The jokes started to get much funnier around the time the "date" storyline began. (The joke about the grass not growing well, as well as the joke about the obvious idea that the alien isn't from around here were good enough to make me quite amused.) Continuing from there, the overall humor maintained itself fairly well to the end. Newspaper humor, however, seems to fall flat. That's just a matter of taste.
Sometimes I wondered why a ghost would be worried about work, school, money, or other matters, but that's just me. Then again, this is likely just thinking about it too much.
I had trouble remembering the names of the characters, but that's just because I have trouble with names in general. The other problem might be the small number of archives.
Updates:
The update schedule seems sporadic and infrequent. So far, the archive isn't very large, and it's hard to really get the best feel for it. (However, in this situation, I should refrain from making that criticism as it's one of those "the pot calls the kettle black" situations.) To be honest, I was a bit worried about going through an archive started around 2001, but was surprised at the small number of strips made in that time. With the flow of the writing, a more rigorous update schedule would help a lot.
Overall grade: 3.5 out of 5.
Better than a lot of the strips out there, but falls short in a couple areas. It's good, but not my personal preference. Keep going, though, there's been some great improvements! |
