Horribly, horribly overrated. The art is usually nice, but the stiff, unnatural poses and disappointing fight scenes will make dedicated art students cringe. I know I did...
The story and characters can both be summed up in one word: generic. Sure, the author tries to redeem herself near the end with a confusing and irrational plot twist, but it's nothing short of eye-roll-worthy. Pacing is too fast in some parts and too slow in others. It would have been better if the comic was longer, so it wouldn't be so unbalanced. The slow beginning takes up too large of a chunk of the story. The dialogue is awful, everyone talks exactly the same way all the time.
The only thing that saves Inverloch from a "poor" rating is the admittedly lovely art. Other than that, it's really not worth it. Don't bother buying the print version. If you really want to rot your brain with yet another generic fantasy comic, just go to the site and read it for free.
Of course, I doubt my opinion is going to matter at all, considering how many blindly rabid fans Inverloch has. |
