Comic: Weesh 4/5
A wryly charming 21st-century variation on Crockett Johnson\'s classic strip \"Barnaby.\" The kids are uniformly annoying and drawn in a relatively inexpressive manga style, but the rabbity wish-granting creature Weesh is a wonderful minimalist creation that shows how much can be expressed by drawing two dots and two lines on a pear.
Comic: Deep Fried 4/5
This comic moved on beyond Beepo a long time ago. It now features the PG-13 adventures of a grownup Charlie Brown, metamorphosed into a muscular cyborg giant in a grim post-apocalyptic world where he and his killer dog Snoopy maim, slay, and betray to stay alive. The fun comes in recognizing the creepy transformations of all the classic comics characters they encounter-- Orphan Annie, Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and so on and on. Funny, witty, disturbingly violent, beautifully drawn. If Kurtzman and Elder were doing comics parodies in the 21st century, they might look like this.
Comic: Deer Boy! 4/5
Well-drawn in a quiet, unobtrusive way, Deer Boy! is funny, literate, and entertaining. One of my favorites. The main drawback is that almost all the male characters are insane in some way-- delusional, violently manic, or just plain sociopathic...
