| One may say that controversy draws both baleful eyes and admiring ones. I am one of the latter. The story is rather interesting and gets a tighter focus as it goes along. Although not all the dialogue is inspired, the art more than makes up for anything lacking in the story. The art is gorgeous and striking-the character redesigns fit and the original characters are interesting and both beautiful and terrible to behold (in a GOOD way). The controversy around it focuses on Mandy being responsible for many terrible real life tragedies-I personally believe this to be a rather brave decision. As for the implied incest, there is far worst in Anime and I believe it to be tastefully done. (Utena anyone?) It may be that I\'m just tolerant of such a thing in story telling, the fact that people take the elements of this story seriously speaks volumes as to it\'s high quality. I believe that in spite of it\'s focus on American animation, it owes quite a lot to Japanese Anime in terms of storytelling, art, scope and the willingness to face controversy. The flack it gets for this braveness is a crime in my eyes. |
