Comic: Sore Thumbs 4/5
Ignore the political bashing (it's often heavy-handed), ignore the gaming humor (too inconsistent). Ignore everything but the delightfully bizarre characters, the out-of-left-field punchlines, and the infectious cynicism lurking just beneath. This clearly isn't a comic for everyone, but if you appreciate well-done humor and a quirky outlook, Sore Thumbs is highly recommended.
Comic: Nothing Nice to Say 4/5
Very, very funny. Some of the jokes fall flat if you're not into the punk scene, but the comic timing is excellent regardless. The two main characters are vaguely defined at best, but this is primarily a gag comic, so it's forgivable. The artwork is clean and simple. This is a comic for the iconoclast in all of us.
Comic: Questionable Content 4/5
Consistently funny, quirky without being annoying, and touching at times. The art style has fluctuated a little wildly, which makes it hard to remember who is who, but overall the style is solid. The romantic subplot is realistically drawn-out, sometimes to a fault, but the characters are genuinely interesting without resorting to stereotypes. These feel like real twentysomethings. Mature, but doesn't take itself too seriously. And it has less to do with indie rock than you might think.
Comic: Loserz 3/5
Very funny at times, but the characters lack personality (particularly Jodie, whose major defining characteristic is that she's slutty). The art is simple and fairly effective, but ironically, the occasional dip into exaggerated manga style looks better than the regular style. Excellent coloring, although it's sporadic (like the updates). The characters are eternally stuck in high school, a fantasy setup that clashes with the often realistic and heartfelt storylines. Overall, though, it's worth reading for the excellent sense of humor.
Comic: ThatGuy 4/5
Great comic. Quirky, funny, and heartfelt.
Comic: Penny Arcade 5/5
It's en vogue right now to bash PA, but the fact is that it's just a damn funny comic, gaming humor or no. Tycho can write a mean punchline, and Gabe's art is excellent. PA's success is no fluke.
