|Lately, the Strong Bad e-mails have fallen off the horse a bit and gotten a little gimmicky ("hey, let's list variations of things that e-mailers say I need!"), but even at it's worst, Homestar has got to be the most richly-designed... thing on the internet. It's amazing what those guys can do every week.
Or... every other week... they don't really have an offical update day, do they?
Also, is it just me, or have the Homestar characters gotten progressively... um... scary? Like I feel like they now have serious mental problems. Watch the latest halloween one and tell me Strong Sad doesn't creep you out. ^^;
Anyway, it's still good! ^_^
|Comic: Penny Arcade
|The writing's usually pretty hit or miss with me, and frequently lacks punchlines, but even so, it still manages to make me laugh at least 2/3 comics. There are a bunch that I can always go back on and always find funny.
As for the art - it's just a lot of fun for me to look at it. It's a big part of what makes it funny, and Krahulik's range into detail and then back to simplistic is impressive.
And I don't care what anyone says - 'wang' is a funny word. Say it with me.
|Comic: Dueling Analogs
|I donít mean to be mean, Iím just getting this off my chest.
Dueling Analogs sucks. Itís not that funny, and often falls back on formulas - if you honestly laugh at "Games I'm Glad Were Never Made" or even giggle at "Rejected Megaman Villains" then you should really just pick up a newspaper Ė Family Circus is probably right up your alley.
Even the negative critics are saying, ďat least the artís goodĒ and Iíve got to disagree there too. The artís static and feels really lifeless, and uses a lot of the same images over and over (most notably in Harveyís frequent monologues) The latest gimmick, ďWhat if (famous cartoonist) created Dueling Analogs?Ē has yielded better art every time, which kind of depresses me, Ďcause it shows he can do better.
Now, youíre almost definitely saying, ďHeís just jealous.Ē Iím not. I donít care that much because I KNOW that this doesnít deserve to be #1, but itís advertised so much, youíd think Steve Napierski owned this website. (which he very well might Ė I havenít fact checked this ) Steve, if youíre reading this, all I want to say is this: Please stop advertising for a year-ish and see where you really fall. Youíll find a lot more acceptance, I promise.
Now I KNOW I sound like a jerk, but I want to make really clear that I donít mean to make any personal attacks against Mr. Napierski Ė from what I hear, heís a very nice guy. Iím an artist too, and I know itís hard, and it takes work. Dueling Analogs has a lot of readers now, and I think something good can be done with it, but as long as itís got its fake #1, I can't imagine it being improved.
|This is a pretty funny webcomic. I'm not sure if you've really found your voice yet, but I hope you keep going! It looks like you've got some real potential.
Oh, and I hope you stick with this new style. It seems to be working for you. :)
