Mankind has entered a new Dark Age in this dystopian future imagined by Ayn Rand. The stark horror of a civilization destroyed by envy remains as relevant and arresting today as it did eight decades ago. In this adaptation, award-winning artist Dan Parsons teams up with Jennifer Grossman of The Atlas Society to introduce the story to a new generation with a provocative, graphic presentation that captures the imagination and invites readers on a journey of self-discovery.

Thrilling, thought-provoking story. Faithful graphic adaptation.
5 Stars
Thrilling, thought-provoking story. Faithful graphic adaptation.
Imagine a world where there is no "I", where everyone speaks only of "we", where all concern with one's own happiness is forbidden. A grey, joyless, duty-filled world. Now imagine a man, raised in this society, who has always had trouble fitting in, a man who begins a quest to discover the hidden glories of an age that went before, the Unmentionable Times. This is the world of Anthem, Ayn Rand's classic vision of a dystopian future. This is a very faithful adaptation in graphic novel form, full of dramatic and heroic drawings of our hero, the young woman he loves, and the villains he struggles to understand. This was the first work of Ayn Rand's that I ever read, and I think that for most readers it remains the best introduction to her vision of what life should be.

Reading Ayn Rand in my early adult years helped form my world view. I’ve mentioned her works to the younger folks in the family with mixed results, usually more of smile and a nod to this old guy.
I saw this copy mentioned in a tweet from the Atlas Society, and thought, deviously, I bet the kids would read this just because it’s a ‘graphic novel’.
Well like flies to honey, several young ones have been introduced to thinking about their political choices. I felt Atlas shrug.

I'm a big fan of Ayn Rand and have read most of her books including Anthem. This is an amazingly well done depiction with beautiful artistry. This would be a perfect gift for someone who you think needs to understand Rand philosophy. This graphic novel really cuts it down to the basic tenets and is very well done. Thanks!

I find that graphic novels are the absolute best way to get my grandchildren interested in the classics. This was beautifully illustrated. Somewhat abridged, but great for kids and fun to look at for those of us who have read the books.

In this day of short attention spans, a graphic novel is a good way to get a point across. Being responsible for our own actions, faults, ambitions, etc, and thinking for oneself, are key themes to AR's writing. well represented here.

Didn't like the way the story presented itself. I didn't know when to read across or down for the next sequence. Did not like it, but the art work was very nice.

Engaging presentation of Ayn Rand's iconic novel - beautiful artwork and great to pass on to a younger audience as well.

The quality of the adaptation is good. Drawings are great. But, the quality of this book is just deplorable. It fell apart from the binding during the first reading. It is not salvageable, I'm afraid.

1.0 out of 5 stars A terrible work of Randian propaganda
Reviewed in Germany on September 27, 2022
This is an almost unreadable work of Randian propaganda. Utterly terrible.

That is of course also the reason why I bought it. A friend and me do have a bit of a tradition of gifting each other the most terrible piece of literature we can find and in this quest this product definitely delivered.

For everyone else, who might be looking for a graphic novel that is actually enjoyable I would advise to look elsewhere.
