I'm still kind of heady about the way that my offhanded simile in the Scot Pilgrim thread was received, so I'm making up a metaphor (and simile) game. Simple rules. Previous person makes a simple declarative, and the next person jazzes it up with a suitable metaphor then adds their own simple declarative. There is no continuity except from declarative to metaphor.

Now you try.

...but every time he tried to write, he found he had no inspiration, as if the muses themselves had abandoned him on the fateful night when his soulmate left.

He stood on the edge of the cliff, a motionless beacon beckoning the seekers of truth to the small building a hundred feet behind him, a sentinel warning against those who sought to destroy it.
The clock ticked. _________________ "S*P*Q*R" |

The clock ticked, seconds sounding out the steady retreat of his waning life.
