Nice Christmas episode. Clever story and good art.

As an aside, I like those little forward/back arrows that appear on the sides of the page when you mouse over it. Quite convenient.

Thanx guys! Sry for the late response.

I appreciate the kind words regarding my sloppy lines there Ed. I've been reading Nothing Happened Today since you started posting in these forums. It's one of my favorite reads. Your dry and twisted humor is right up my alley.

As for mehilow, I'm just glad you guys dug the fanart and thanx for pimpin' M-Zero on your site. Very cool!

Fixed it! Thanks for that Dpat! I get in such a rush it's hard to see my errors sometimes. I blame my three year old. He sucks as a QA/Editor! Very Happy

Anyway! I posted a nice piece of Voting Incentive of the current two page spread in it's completed form. Just give Monster Zero a vote to check it out!

Question: how do you shade your comic? You have a pretty cool benday dot effect going on. Is it digital or do you still use transfer films?

Everything is digital except for the initial line art. I start with a B/W halftone pattern bkg in Photoshop and just build the layers of light and shadows.

Close up of the Halftone pattern.

Here's the building of layers.

That's my ultra-violence allowance for today exceeded! I like the art and page composition lots. Cool dialogue. Smile

I would've posted a comment on the page but lazily shied away from the "register" requirement, my bad.

Thanks dpat57! You've always had a kind word for my nasty little comic. I truly appreciate that man! Very Happy

As for commenting on the M-Zero site, you don't have to "register" or "log in" to post a comment there. It allows you to just type in a guest name and leave a comment without having any type of account. Perhaps I should put a disclaimer up stating so.

Anyway, thanks for that dpat!

Last page of Chapter 4 went up!

http://monsterzero.smackjeeves.com/comics/

Curious what folks have to say about the series so far.

This kinda wraps up the first arc.

Got crazy plans for the future.

Hope folks come see!

Monster Zero is one year old today. I am proud of this. Just thought I'd get that out.

Thanx All!

In my desperate struggle to evolve and speed thing up I've been messin' around with some new approaches for Monster Zero. Below is a series of doodles and page composition experiments with an even looser and more abstract style than what I've used in the past. I'm trying to change without alienating folks that actually like how things already look.

My main reason for doing this it workload. I've had an increase in design projects and I'm afraid I'll not find the time for M-zero if I can't find a quicker approach. I've come to far to stop so I trying to streamline everything.

All of these samples are completely digital. If any of you lovely people can give me some feedback I'd greatly appreciate it. Personally I like how this stuff looks but I don't want to loose the vibe of the comic. Let me know what you think.

Thanx

Those look sufficiently similar to your style up to this point that I don't think your readers will have any cause to complain.

I prefer the ones that don't have halftones overlapping the black brushy stuff; I find the collision of the two different dot patterns hard to read, and anyway the black stuff feels much more organic and meaningful to the drawing.

Sweet character designs, especially the hot chick. Some look as if you drew them with charcoal and smudged 'em with your hand. Wondering if this is intentional, that's all.

Thanks for the feedback fellas! Sounds like it won't matter much if the style changes slightly. It's not like there's much consistency to begin with when looking back over the comic. I'm thinking I got a little bent outta shape for nothing at this point. Your comments reinforce that notion.

It would make for a cleaner image. But I've always liked things that challenged the eyes a little. Sin City is a good example. Hell, SMBH*A is a good example. I'm just trying a different approach. If I had the time I would paint the entire comic but that's not happening unless I win the lotto.

Yes it's intentional. I love textures and I try to use a charcoal or ink splatter effect to create that. I've built a billion different brushes in PS for these effects.

Dude... the new all digital stuff still rocks!

Thanks man! NHT is still "Genius" by the way! Laughing

I think I'll just start throwing random art up here to get feedback on occasion. You guys have been awesome! Thanks you!
