Get rid of the stupid ad!

There is something that keeps poping up a "Security Error, Domain Mismatch" window... I'm certain its from an ad. (on the forums at least).

anyway, this is what it looks like:

open your HOSTS file on your computer. Add the following line
127.0.0.1 rmd.atdmt.com

Save it.

It's gone. Very Happy

HOSTS files are located at /etc/ in linux, /%System_root%/system32/drivers/etc/ under Windows, and /private/etc/ in OSX.

I could just click "OK" on the window too... but I don't want to. I'm not going to approve something I don;t know what it is.

I block about every single cookie that pops up. My point is that it is irregular and should not happen. I don;t trust the certificate on a domain error spawned from an embedded ad.

My solution doesn't cause a security problem. I know that the ad attempting an SSL connection with an invalid certificate is wrong and should be fixed. But, as a relatively easy workaround, modifying your HOSTS file to make it believe that the ad's site doesn't actually exist prevents headaches in the meantime.

Whats up with the error messages and can anyone give me an est. on when it will be fixed? Question
having worked customer service an answer other than "as soon as possible" would be preferable
best of luck fixing it

Yeah does anyone know what happened, and why it only happened to some comics (misfile, OotS, and others are okay)

A better formulation might be "why some comics were not affected", since the exceptions seem to be few and far between. There seems to be no correlation to type of hosting or the ranking here; all "Not Checked For Updates" comics are staying nicely that way however.

Was the site as a whole down yesterday for anyone else? I couldn't connect at ALL for a period of about 8h, starting 26h ago.

Is this the proper place to mention that I find the "Let's Chat" ads annoying to the point that I'm starting to get reluctant to come here and inflict them on myself yet again,

Or is this forum only for technical problems?

(I guess I could approach this *as* a technical problem -- what this site needs a "hide annoying ad" feature!)

We do have a no-terribly-annoying-ads policy somewhere, these being ads with sound, popup thingies etc. We really have that policy! Somewhere. I saw it not that long ago... I think.

Since they ads are different for everyone, could you post a screenshot?

My complaint, fes, not yours.
I feel bad about being a grumpus.

I'm a bit boggled over the statement that not everyone sees the same ads, though, because the two ads I'm referring to do *not* rotate regularly like the others seem to. That's the problem really.

I see two versions of the ads, one on the right side of my "latest comics" page and the other one in the same place on my "comic profiles alphabetical listing" page. I've been getting them every time I load those pages for a week or more. I spend a fair amount of time on those two pages, because I'm trying to visit every single comic listed on the site (that is still updating) at least once before marking it as "don't show". (Some days I get as far as the 'f's. I hope to reach the 'z's by December.)

The top of the ad says "lets chat" and the ad plays a video of a young woman beahving flirtatiously. Two different young women. If they were stills they would be easy to ignore, but theiy are video, so they draw the eye.

The ads aren't offensive, but I do find them tacky, and watching them over and over and over and over and over and over and over, and then the next day over and over and over... and the *next* day ......

That's annoying even when I start out *liking* an ad, you know?

:sigh:
