I just finished up Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, along with Heavy Weather and Holy Fire by Bruce Sterling. Now I'm reading the second volume of Sinister Forces by Peter Levenda.

Whoop, got an actual book to read for a commission (my first ever real one, kinda): Cordwainer Smith's "The Rediscovery of Man" -- really unusual, oldish sci-fi short story collection, psychological and telepathic with an enormously long timeline, like what you would want to read if Dune wasn't weird enough for you.

What exactly does it mean to read a book for commission? Curious sounding thing, that...

Well, this person likes this book, and they want me to illustrate something from it, but they thought they should have *me* go through and find what struck me the most from it, I guess because they thought that would help me do more inspired work than if they had chosen a scene from it themselves.
