Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about doing this for a while now and would like to know how many of you would be interested in joining a webcomic banner exchange.

Basicly, you place a bit of code on your site that will display a banner of another member of the exchange, and every time the banner is displayed or someone clicks on it you earn credits that will place your own banner on other member's sites. (like FantasyBanners.com and such)

I've not been able to find such a thing that's exclusively for webcomics since Rubifruit died, but if there already is one, please let me know XD

Thanks, but that's not really what I mean though. What they're discussing is a link exchange, I'm talking about a fully automated script that will rotate banners on your site Smile

I think I get what you're looking for. Back when I was on Keenspace (back when it WAS "Keenspace"), they had a service where you could upload your banner to a database and random banners from that database would show up on your site if you inserted a snippet of code.

As far as I know, there's no independent service that does this. However, it would be really cool somebody made one.

That would be cool! I don't know of any...I hope someone does. It would be nice though that it is catered to 'types' of webcomics since we are all different and attract different audiences.
That would be very useful! Idea

There are several "web ring" type rotation schemes still around. Usually, like Rubifruit, they cater to a specific audience. Genre-based collectives/portals are the rage nowadays.

Ah, here's a thread on webrings. Not much there though.

I'd be interested in joining. Sounds like a great idea to me so long as there are some standards on placement in a webpage (as in, has to be present on the comic archive pages in a reasonable place, not shoved back in the footer of a links page.)

I've wanted to do something like this too, but I've yet to find a group or even another webcomic that would fit into the same category as mine...

Ok, I'll think I'll do this then in the near future! Very Happy

Just a question though, how important would it be for you guys to only display comics that are of the same genre of your own? I wouldn't have problem with displaying anything on my site, but then again, my interests are all over the place XD

I wouldn't (Kez can has Freudian slip?) mind. Any genre is good. It's an opportunity to reach a more diverse audience.

I made a webcomic rotator for my front page when Rubifruit went down. It's a bit of a clunky code but it works and I will add people to it. Cool

And yes, ComicGenesis still has that rotator. Smile

I will join it probably, considering it works well. All genres are good.

This sounds like a cool idea.

I remember doing something like this in the past. It was just a simple javascript and TXT file thing that I updated manually.

However, you can probably put together something simple with PHP/mySQL to handle the categories (if you want them).

Maybe there's already a script out there that does this sort of thing.

I don't think the problem would be the coding (free scripts are available for this, I would assume), but hosting it would be an issue. Seems like this would take a ton of bandwidth if spread across a dozen or more sites. Roryseviltwin, would you be hosting this yourself?

Yes, I will be hosting this thing myself. To be honest, I don't excpect this thing to be a major success overnight, and my own website isn't all that popular at the moment, so I literally have tons and tons and tons of leftover bandwidth each month. Smile
