I've learned you really have to keep your head on a swivel if you want to be a good driver. Be defensive, pay attention, anticipate what the other guy's going to do and assume he/she's going to do the worst. And don't drink at intersections.

Never pay too close attention to rules in opening posts.

Never, NEVER, say writers are not as valuable as artists.

If you're going to gamble, take only a certain amount of expendable money per day, best allocated before 9:00 am (before you start drinking); put it in an envelope SEPARATE from your wallet. Then when it's gone, it's gone, don't start fishing through other pockets. Avoid ATM machines.

Ben Affleck's "bad" movies aren't as bad as they say, and his "good" ones aren't as good as they say. All are acceptable for your viewing pleasure.

If you're young and don't have a strong drive towards a particular profession, I'd say go with librarian. It's quiet; nobody goes to libraries any more except people you can just call security to take care of. Sit there all day and get paid to do what you're doing right now; where's the downside?

If you want to make a big splash on any forum you can name, go in and post that you enjoyed any of the last three Star Wars films. Quilting, bee-keeping, suicide hotline, it doesn't matter, you won't be able to keep up with the replies.

I would advise you whippersnapper types to check out Nirvana. I say they had more hits in a three year period than the Beatles, and with a 25% smaller band.

Don't waste time trying to be a jack-of-all-trades. It's not 1473 and you're not Leonardo DaVinci.

On the other hand, having a mastery of one thing and one thing only will make you boring and leave you totally unprepared to compete successfully on Jeopardy or Cash Cab, though as long as you have a pulse you'll have a puncher's chance at Wheel of Fortune. And that Vanna White ain't getting any younger, so if you're female and really hot my advice is start working on your letter-spinning now.

Hugh Jackman looks a hell of a lot like a young Clint Eastwood. That's not advice per se, I just noticed it earlier tonight at the library; I was looking at a book about Clint Eastwood while fantasizing about being a librarian.

George Lucas should have quit while he was ahead.
