Good Morning from New York!

I'm here to tell everyone about my pet project, Mortal Half, a story I've worked on for many years, but only recently have started to illustrate (is January considered recent?). The website is finally up and running, so I do hope you'll stop by for a visit! Here's some quick info on the series:

Website: http://www.mortalhalf.com/

Synopsis: Set in the mythical world of Tienne Earth, Mortal Half is an ongoing fantasy saga about a mysterious young woman named Mirra, the bearer of a cursed blade, and the unique individuals she meets throughout the course of her adventures.

Style: B/W, with some colored pages.
Mediums: Traditional line work, digital colors/textures.

Genre: Expect a mix of action, drama, comedy and romance!
Rating: NC-17 for some nudity and coarse language (nothing that'll make you cringe, don't worry).

Current pages: Volume 1; 185+ pages.
Sample page: http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/sample.php?id=8166

As always, thoughts, suggestions and feedback are welcome. I'm pretty much a self-taught artist/writer, so I'm always looking to learn and improve Smile.

And now for the obligatory huge-ass banner:

Mmm, no feedback yet, so I'll go ahead and ask specific questions about some of the things I've been worried about:

1. Are the action scenes reasonably paced, or are they draggy (about a third of Chpt 4 consists of fighting, for example)? I don't want them to be a turn off, this is a bi-weekly webcomic after all.
2. Am I putting too many words on a single page? One of my biggest worries.
3. Color pages are taking me awfully long to complete, so I'm thinking of cutting them out entirely. Is this a good idea or is it off-putting as well?

I do realize 185 pages is an awful lot to read; I should have started putting pages up sooner, but didn't have the confidence to do so really.

Thanks for any input =)!

Guess I'll just have to expect the worst, hope for the best, and keep my peg-leg on in case of emergencies!

The industry standard for words per page is 210, if I recall correctly. But remember, the more words you use = the less room you have for art. So find a balance. No one wants to read a comic book that's a novel, just like no one wants to look at pictures and figure out the story. Marvel style scripts should stay where they are. :p

Also, those pages look like a real bitch to color.

One of the ways you could alleviate the color issue is to have each chapter splash be full-color, and B&W for the pages. Unless you wanna hire a colorist.

Big archive, lot of reading, I'm maybe halfway through, will come back later. I like the story, the characters, the art. Color's nice when it appears but not essential, your B/W art pages are good enough to stand on their own (I think).

I confess I got confused now and again by which character's which -- it took me while to realize the character in the prison sequence is the merc swordswoman -- but that's just me. Smile Action scenes can be a bit frantic, I got the impression of rapid violent movement in some fight sequence panels but sometimes I wasn't sure what's going where, who's attacking who, etc. But that didn't stop me from reading.

Lat- I'll definitely keep that word limit in mind, I know for a fact I've gone over a few times.
I've started working full-color, but already I can tell this kind of workload isn't sustainable- as in I'm just about ready to tear my hair out. Splash, + maybe 2-3 more colored pages I think I can do.

Dpat57- I'm glad you like the story so far =). I'll try to plan out the action scenes better, they did strike me as somewhat busy once I was done with them. Will try focusing on one character at a time.

Thank you for the feedback!
