A WEBCOMIC FOR YOUR INNER MUSIC NERD
New Tumblr comic satirizes music hipsterism.
BLACKWAX BOULEVARD is an exciting, new comedy about a motley crew of record store clerks striving to stay open for business. Created, written and illustrated by Dmitri Jackson, BLACKWAX BOULEVARD delivers razor-sharp commentary on indie culture and music geekdom and examines the intersection of life and pop music.
"Not all indie is sacred," says Jackson. "I believe we're reaching a point now where the idea of 'independent' has become synonymous with 'mainstream.' These days, I hear too many songs that seem tailor-made for that next movie trailer or car commercial. So that music subculture is a pretty fair target, don't you think?"
Given the subject matter, Jackson's choice of platform for BLACKWAX feels timely as ever. "I love how Tumblr allows us to share things so quickly. To my generation, it's such a vital tool for discovering new music and establishing careers. I think we'll keep seeing the next greatest music and comics coming from the blogosphere more than anywhere else."
