I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this idea, although I haven't seen any other examples. I made a "video trailer," i.e. a slideshow with music to post to YouTube in an attempt to reach a new audience. The occasion is finishing up the first volume of my comic. What do you guys think? Is this a good way to do outreach? I had fun and learned some new software regardless.

I've seen this sort of stuff in Kickstarter (including webcomics, so you're definitely not the first , sorry). It makes a very compelling presentation.
I can't see how this could possibly hurt as other kinds of promotion, though. Why not.

As someone who started their webcomic as an animated-only affair, I would say don't bother unless you're really going to have a mind-blowing video that will go viral and all that on its own merits. Otherwise it will just be a lot of effort for very little payoff, because it's surprisingly hard to get people to watch most video presentations--unless maybe it *is* attached to something like a Kickstarter campaign, I guess.

(As far webcomic Kickstarter videos, I almost universally loath them, although I'll admit I do take a perverse delight in seeing how the authors spin their "for some reason we need you to give us money" proposal.)

Quite a time ago I did some animation videos that actually inspired me to my later comic. Here is one of them. I made the music myself.

I am not really into them, personally. I think that they look like fun to make and I might do one in the future just for my own enjoyment, but beyond that I rarely can get through them.

Maybe I'm dense, but I couldn't seem to find it. Do you have a direct link to the video?

I had difficulties uploading larger files with sounds on u-tube, so I haven't tried again yet. I could upload silent movies without problem, but with sound (which is essentiel to that file), the playlentgh doubled and the movie was repeated.

Like I said, it was just a bit of fun, about 200 people have seen it, not exactly viral...

but that is it.

Now I have uploaded an resized version in Youtube. The quality of the pictures lacks a little, and the sound probably too, but it is more watchable now.

If you feel like putting more work into this, I have a few suggestions...

The illustrated pages were too small for me to take in the detail, and way too small for me to read the text. Consider displaying just one panel at a time rather than the whole page. Also, if you want people to read that final page of text, it needs to be there for several seconds longer, because I could only read the first few lines and I'm a pretty fast reader.

I don't get a steampunk vibe at all, but it was definitely an entertaining psychedelic journey.

I tried putting it into full screen mode, and I could make out the text, barely, but didn't have time to read it..

I agree it is more psychedelic then steampunk, but it is one of several fragments of a project, this one is about the lavish life on an airship. (A theme later picked up in a comic).
There is although a complete animation movie, but it is to long to be uploaded.
