|
|
Hello everyone!
Just discovered this page, and have submitted our daily online strip, "Ace Kilroy" to Ash.
"Ace Kilroy" is a daily online strip, done in the style of the classic American newspaper adventure serials of the mid-20th Century. We post a new black and white strip every day with an extra large Color Supplement on Sundays.
Set in 1937, the strip is about solider of fortune Ace Kilroy, who has been commissioned by President Franklin Roosevelt to hunt down and kill the world's supernatural monsters, before they become pawns of the Third Reich.
"Ace Kilroy" is written, lettered, and colored by Rob Kelly (that's me), and drawn by Dan O'Connor. We launched on Halloween night 2011 and have posted a new installment every day. We are now just a few weeks away from ending our first arc, where Ace takes on Dracula!
We've been fortunate enough to receive reviews and features by The Onion A.V. Club, Robot 6, Geekadelphia, and Rue Morgue. We've also been nominated for an Eagle Award for Favorite Web-Based Comic: http://www.eagleawards.co.uk/nominations/
You can check out the strip at the main Ace Kilroy site: http://www.acekilroy.com

The art work is VERY good. The inking is awesome. I like the whole serial style you are going for. I know coloring takes A LOT of time, but I think your comic readership would expand a lot if you could some how get all the panels in color because the comic looks amazing in color.
Keep up the good work! _________________ |

Thx for the reply!
I see your point about the color, but we'd never get it done if I had to color every strip!
Right now we're sticking to the classic newspaper style of b/w and color, but we have lots of ideas for Ace Kilroy in other formats so who knows?
Thanks for the kind words!

Great art style choice! The old adventure strips are a lot of my inspiration, too, although I think your artist is a lot closer to matching them than I am. :) _________________ |

Thank you! Yes, the artwork really is great (I can say that, because I didn't do it!
My co-creator Dan O'Connor and I went to the Joe Kubert School together, and I've always been impressed by his talent. So when I came up with the general idea for "Ace Kilroy", and how I wanted it to look and feel, Dan was the obvious choice. He and I both love vintage Americana stuff, the kind of atmosphere we can really sink our teeth into.

This is really cool.
I've always been a fan of the old pulp style newspaper action strips and this brings back that feel completely. This is quite good.
I've done art on a strip that's (hopefully) done in a similar style, though a little more 'superhero'. which you can check out here if you are so inclined - http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Red_Devil/
again, nice job!

Thx Eric!
I checked out Red Devil, looks pretty cool (love the name). I feel like if/when we have a scene with Ace walking by a newsstand, there should be an issue of "Red Devil Comics" for sale! It would fit in so well with Ace's universe.

That would be cool. We could probably do the same.
They do seem to take place in VERY similar worlds.
Great minds think alike, I guess!
Again, You have a way cool strip! |

Ha! I would love to see the Ace Kilroy newspaper strip as a prop in another comic.
Before we launched AK, I was only vaguely familiar with the breadth and depth of web comics; now that I've been educating myself I am stunned at the level of creativity out there. Such a wide variety of stuff, both in form and content. Just from a cursory look, Red Devil really feels like something that DC would have put out at one point, it has that kind of classic superhero feel to it.
BTW, our strip is nominated for an Eagle Award for Favorite Web-Based Comic. We're up against some stiff competition, but if we won it would really put Ace Kilroy on the map. So if anyone reading this is so inclined, please head over to the Eagle page and vote for us, question #19: http://www.eagleawards.co.uk/nominations/
...voting ends April 2!

Good luck.
Thanks for the kind words about RD.
Yeah, I was surprised to learn that webcomics was more than porn and crappy manga comics. Go figure! |

Thank you for voting! We need all the help we can get!
Red Devil sort of reminds me of the kind of books DC put out in the 80s, where they were experimenting more with settings and genres, stuff set in the future or past, or alterna-realities. Jemm, Son of Saturn, Nathaniel Dusk, Silverblade, Blue Devil, All-Star Squadron, etc. Good luck with it, I plan to catch up asap...
