I started a new comic, called „Steampunk-gorgon“.
1. The comic is steampunk and not „gaslamp“, meaning it is an uchronic science-fiction-setting based on steam-technology, not a story set in a somehow victorian past. A comic that might have inspired me is „Moondog“ by George Metzger, the very first steampunk-comic (1969), as far as I know. (If anyone knows an older „real“ steampunk-comic, please tell me.) Anyhow, it's nearly twenty years ago I read it. But my comic isn't influenced by any actual steampunk-comics or stories. I will use material I wrote some years ago for an unpublished steampunk-rpg. As I am really interested in steam-technology, I did a lot of research to really get into the thing. I am also very keen on arts&craft, art nouveau, astheticism and jugendstil, so there will be some of that, too.
2. For the story: The interviews and paper in the beginning tries to give some background information to get into the setting. The developing story will be more conventionl comic with less text. As I said, I am more influenced by classical science-fiction and space-age/underground-comix, so some of the subjects may look provocative/weird to younger readers. (For example the problem of overpopulation, that don't seem to interest many people today. Also the treatment of religious history has a long tradition in 1960/70ies science-fiction.)
3. For the style: The comic itself is handlettered and drawn with ink on paper. There is no digital rework of any kind. A computer was used to print the newspapers, which were reworked with ink.

Although it's a little messy here and there, I like the hand-drawn look, and the minimalist art design. It seems familiar! I think I may have seen some other comic of yours before? _________________ |

Cool Medusa drawing!
What pens or inks or whatever are you using for Steampunk Gorgon? (I've been on kind of a pen and ink kick lately.) _________________ |

If you're open to a teeny little bit of criticism? In that sample pic posted 28 Apr, there's not enough distance between the truck and the pyramids, they look as if they might be next to each other and the same height. Adding some more hint of low rolling dune landscape between them might help increase the perceived distance. Also, your text isn't doing your art any favors, don't look down at using a ruler. Shrug, just my passing thoughts.
There's some interestingly different art samples in this thread. _________________ |

I noticed it when I finished; but could not redo that on paper. I try indeed to work with a ruler as less as possible, but I'll take more care the next time. |

Four more pages up, and now with a hommage to Mandrake the Magician.
Feedback and linking is welcome. There must be some steampunk-fans outside who also like non-manga-style.
