My first "comic" was a series of drawings in which I depicted how my father gets ready for work. I didn't write anything on them, but just blocked them off in order to show what he did when. I was five years old.
My father was naked in most of the drawings. (My parents were hippies and both of them walked around naked a lot.) My mom had seven brothers and sisters and she made copies for all of them and sent it to them and her parents. They had quite a laugh. My dad's comment was "Maybe it's time we start wearing clothes."
This is the one depicting him on the toilet. That's a newspaper.

I don't think I've ever actually drawn a comic strip. I spent much time in my teen years trying to emulate the popular artists of the day (Liefeld and his ilk), but never tried my hands at actually creating pages.
Nowadays I actually only write. That is fine as the artist on my comic is far more talented in that area than I am. |

I remember when I was probably 13 or 14 I would do comics about the Smurfs, but they were always killing each other with guns that shot smurfberries, and Poppa got killed like every other comic, but would always come back.....it wasn't your father's Smurfs. _________________

Ha... I just recently dug out my early drawings to show to my kids... my first attempts at sequential comics (as opposed to were drawings) was when I was 10 or so, and heavily into Garfield. The concept, which I'm sure I thought was amazingly interesting at the time, was a geek cat Marty and his nephew (?) who was embarrassed by him. They both wore glasses. I only made a couple before I gave up on it, though.
Somehow I got sidetracked from drawing comic strips and went into comic books instead, probably when I realized I hadn't a hope of being funny on a schedule. But I should totally scan those things in and post them. _________________ |

Pretty new here so not said much yet .
Long time lurker, no time poster lol.
Aside from jotter doodlings as a kid in school, I drew my first comic a year or 2 ago, quite quite drunk lol.
Me an my mate decided to jot down the sorta jokes told over a pint in comic form.
The results were uhhhhh, interesting lol.
My stuff is just simple shapes to form people.
It's more a means to tell a joke than to draw decent art .
Think of the standard your 7 year old son/daughter niece nephew would draw and minus 5.
That's what my stuff's like lol.
For better or worse, here's an example.

I drew quite a few comics featuring my own invention - a superhero named "Swingman". His suit was pretty much a close variation on Captain Americas. I must have been around ten or so. He still has a special place in my heart! |

I was somewhere under the age of 8, and I re drew a four panel strip my dad made called "The incredible bulk" then I half finished a sequel after that, got bored and started drawing my own adventure/comedy books. about a guy who would get into terrible circumstances that ended badly. I named him Fred or something plane like that.
that's my story. |

When I was 6 or so I would draw these EPIC ACTION COMICS about Kirby. Then I drew some little comics about a superhero... whose powers... were somehow derived from a video projector.
My writing style has thankfully become more... refined. And if you saw those old comics, you'd understand why I teamed up with an artist to do my webcomic. |

I used to get caught for drawing in class all the time from elementary school all the way to junior high. I had one teacher in grade 8 who thought I could put my doodling hobby to good use by drawing my projects up as comics instead of regular write ups.
My personal favorite was a superhero that saved the city by using his super powers to speed up the natural water cycle, and have it rain on the city to save it from fire.

I remember drawing my own Peanuts comics in first or second grade... I'm told before that it was pictures of extension cords and electric fans. _________________
