Avalon Games will be putting out the first issue of a new Sci-Fi based e-zine in March and we are currently looking for content. If you would like to submit some good sci-fi based gaming or fiction, then we would be more then happen to include your work. This time around we will be paying for content, although such payments will be small.

We are looking for the following submissions.

Open Licensed based gaming content, RPG, board games or tabletop based.
Generic Sci-Fi based gaming content, again RPG, board game or tabletop based.
Articles on Sci-Fi gaming in general, any sort of genre will do
Articles on Sci-Fi in general, any sort of genre will do
Sci-Fi based fiction, again in any genre
Sci-Fi based art (This is a good opportunity to showcase your work, we have done this in our other gaming e-zine Game Geek and it has been successful)
Cartoon strips
Reviews of Sci-Fi games, movies, etc.

We would love to offer several comic in each issues sort of making it a mash-up of gaming and heavy metal like stuff.

Avalon Games is always happy to take submission form first time writers and those looking to brake into the gaming field. So if you want to get your feet wet, here is a good opportunity.

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear.

First off, "brake" is the pedal in your car that makes you slow down. What a writer might want to do is *break* into the gaming field. Also this: "We would love to offer several comic in each issues sort of making it a mash-up of gaming and heavy metal like stuff" should be this: "We would love to offer several comics in each issue, bringing together gaming and heavy metal." Also "more than happy". Correct grammar and appropriate vocabulary are important to give the impression of being professional, and proof-reading is important to make sure you've not missed something like a typo.

Now. A few key questions you really should have answered in the original post:

1. What is Avalon Games? What do you do?
2. What kind of readership do you expect for the magazine?
3. How long should submissions be, in pages (for comics) and words (for articles and prose)?
4. What format should submissions be in?
5. Should comics and stories be short story arcs contained completely within the submission, or longer story arcs intended to be spread across several issues of the magazine?

A few other things:
You should provide a link to your website. I had to google it. I assumed the first link I got was your website, but I have no way of really knowing, and that website I saw looked, well, unprofessional. Which, well, isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're an amateur group, but if that is the case you should say so, so that potential submitters know what they're submitting to and know what to expect from it.

Saying something is "a good opportunity to showcase your work" is a bit of a sore point around here. See, people use it to justify not paying much or anything at all to people who work hard on comics, and to be quite honest, if you need to tell someone it's a good opportunity, it probably isn't. People aren't stupid. They know the difference, most of the time, between a good opportunity and someone trying to get someone else to work for free or for a pittance.

See, real good opportunities go through the proper channels, they happen within the industry, and they involve you knowing the right people, being part of the right network most of the time, or else being directly approached by someone who has seen your work and likes it (or, if you're cynical, making money out of it).

Stuff that gets posted on a public forum asking for open submissions, well, generally isn't. Now I'll admit that sometimes, on rare occasions, it might be that someone posting asking for comics and stuff here does hit the big time eventually and those who replied are along for the ride, but mostly, stuff that it working at the kind of level where you're posting in a place like this is amateur and stays amateur, maybe making enough money one day to pay for itself and maybe a chocolate bar once a month for the website owner.

And anyway, we've heard it all before. Many many times. You're looking for people to submit something they've worked hard on for small returns. Thus you're the one who need to make a really good pitch. When you're a big deal, when you've got enough submissions to say no to more than half of them and when you can charge decent amounts for advertising space, that's when you can call it a "good opportunity", but by then you won't need to because people will know.

Is his website http://www.avalon-games.com?

Because if so, I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for someone who can't even use a spell-checker.

hotmil? Is this a valid email provider? Or another typo? I mean if you are asking people to get in touch with you at least make sure they are able to do so...
Just sayin'...
