But I also used the serif "I" as a capital, such as at the beginning of a sentence like "It wasn't a good idea" and for proper names such as "Iceland". Neither of which you are supposed to do, typographically speaking.

Bloody hell, I just realized I'm still doing the "beginning of sentence" thing. Augh. Old punctuation habits are hard to break, especially when you're writing the script out on a computer that doesn't have your specific comic font installed (not that I write scripts at my day job, of course... *ahem*)

iT CAN BE CHALLENGiNG WHEN I'M LETTERiNG MY OWN STUFF.

Argh, I do the beginning of sentence thing as well. Damn it. That one is going to be a hard habit to break.

I totally agree--we really do need to deal with the increasing risk of crustacean lung cancer!

Hahaha, I've mostly circumvented the barred-vs-unbarred 'I' by using lowercase lettering.... XD I don't even know what that counts as with regards to comicking noobery. (Though I found out about the I thing a couple of years ago, and filed it away under 'stuff what might be useful to know sometime in the future'.)

3) Random button. You want more hits? Guess what I did over half the weekend? If your comic is longform, you should disconnect the random button (except like Questionable Content where it's longform AND strip-based simultaneously. I hit his random button a lot yesterday. PAUSE)

I agree! I have a random button on Fetch, although I do hope it send people to my later (and much better) strips more often than my earlier strips!

As for the 'I' thing, I'm surprised to see it brought up. I do it and I thought I was just being nit-picky.... Didn't think any readers would really care!

I would venture to guess that most don't, and even more of them aren't aware of the convention at all (beyond maybe subconsciously). There's creators who even intentionally go against it for whatever reason... but I was just plain ignorant, and it's one of those conventions that makes sense to me because the stroke I takes up less space in a word balloon or caption, not to mention the reduction in wear and tear on your body if you're hand lettering.

I honestly think that last point is the most important reason it was adopted in the first place all those many years ago. Does digital lettering make it obsolete, aside from the weight of tradition? Maybe, but again from a practical standpoint I do like that it makes text more compact on a page.

On that note, I've never actually read through Wayward Sons yet. Is it all about cleavage and sex? Cuz I've yet to see one of their ads that doesn't emphasize that.

It's like some sort of sci-fi mythology rig? It's actually pretty cool... I enjoyed reading it. It's definitely not all sex and cleavage, though there is a lot of cleavage... they just way overuse sex sells.

Webcomic sites that change your mouse pointer. =P Although I don't know of any that do this currently--looks like the one I used to know of has stopped doing it. :)
