Speaking of which, that's something that always bothers me. I think we may have discussed it before...
Sci-fi worlds where they go to the "Planet of the Desert" and "The Planet of Volcanos" and "The Planet of People Who Put Their Makeup on in Traffic". Has it ever occurred to these sci-fi writers that maybe, there just might be a planet with deserts AND volcanoes on it? You know, maybe there might be a planet with some kind of realistic biosphere with diverse climates and lifeforms?
Or maybe there's a planet somewhere in the universe without a single one-world-government, or single dominating culture? And just maybe, in those rare cases where you have two cultures, maybe they could actually for once be symbiotic mutually-respecting cultures, and not some three-cent me-too commentary on the perils of racism.
