Hey, I'm pretty new to the web comic world. I know this section of the forum is essentially for shameless advertising, but I'll cut to the chase. Here's the comic I'm a part of: http://www.cosmicpulp.com/

Overall, it's really just about the quirks of being in a relationship where you're allowed to have a sense of humor. We haven't decided fully on which subjects we plan to delve into, but we settled on something cute and non-offensive for the first strip (read: prove to our parents that we aren't horrible human beings in college).

I'm actually the writer and web-designer (notice the website is still in the works, not all sections are available). So, as a newbie to this whole web comic world, what sort of advice would you guys give? What are some tips on properly delivering a punchline in only a few frames?

Though it's a small feat and we definitely think we have better comics in us, we're really proud of this first strip and website. Not only did we put everything together ourselves, but we even made our own fonts out of our handwriting.

Let me know what you think! I promise I'll try to get on these forums regularly so I can see what sort of things the rest of the community is working on (but for now, I've got to head to work!)

Hey, putting a website together is half the battle. Congratulations!

Something in what you said after the comic made me think you might get inspired by www.americanelf.com, if you haven't been already.

"Just fucking enjoy our goddamn webcomic" is satisfying.

In my experience (saying that makes me feel like a fat man on a throne, so I'll say it again--) In MY experience, deciding on subjects to delve into can really hamper progress. Anything you're amused enough by to spend the couple hours it takes writing & drawing the damn thing is good enough.

Regarding punchlines- from your comic it seems like you understand timing fine (finely.) Just make yourselves laugh.

Is there only that one sample page, or am I missing navigation buttons?

It doesn't need the guy with the camera talking in the background, the picture delivers the joke itself.

@Wonderdrome: Thanks for the reply! I'm really enjoying the American Elf comics I'm sifting through. I'll definitely have to keep my eye on it and start reading it regularly.

@dpat57: Sorry I didn't make it more clear! That was actually the first comic we put up, so there was no navigation needed. we've uploaded our second comic now, complete with a navigation system.

Thanks for the input, it seriously means a lot as a (very very very) new webcomic.

Thank you very much! We're still learning how to work in the comic medium overall. Been reading a Will Eisner and a Scout McCloud book on sequential art.

I think we successfully moved into the two strips per week format. We have the second one for this week going up tonight at midnight and already have two planned for next week.
