Firstly, Thanks WendyW!
Secondly, the scope of this sub-forum seems larger than just relating to children and how they make your webcomics 100% better because you use them as characters in your comics.

But, asking a child-related question:

Can someone tell me the coping strategies that you have when the little darlings decide that your pens and expensive papers are far more interesting than the crayons they are using? The kid isn't even mine!

(He's my nephew, snarks aside).

He doesn't want your pens, he wants your attention. Try taking a few minutes to draw with him or invent a game (my mom used to start me on this thing where I'd draw something out of each letter of the alphabet). Just give him a little of your time and a nudge in a good direction and he won't be al grabby-grab with your stuff.

Your expensive tools are far more interesting than crayons, and he knows it. Keep them in a safe place while he's around. Eventually he'll be old enough to understand you can't touch without permission.

But you can also use the opportunity to give the kid an early start in cartooning! Show him how to make crayons do their stuff. I've seen some amazing pieces of art coloured with nothing but crayons. I bought my daughter her own sketchbook, an $8 investment (though you can get them for cheaper I'm sure). Not only does she now have a special place to draw, we no longer have piles of loose papers all over the place. I like flipping through the book to see all her art, and she does, too. And I let her use my "special" pens occasionally. Wink

Hey I post less often than I upload new strips so erm... yeah.

And on-topic. Thanks guys, I have now been discussing getting him more creative, with his grandmother (his father is slightly less than useless at doing anything but the bare minimum). The little man is only 2 and I'm new to looking after the little sprouts.

Not ever planning on having my own though.

My son is only 1 year old.... so... he wants my pen.
