Hey folks,

It's a while since I've been around this parish so, 'Hey' if you know who I am!

What I'm here to ask is; I've just started a Facebook page for my comics. It is here if you are interested : http://www.facebook.com/pages/Blurred-Lines-Comics/139128152875250

The chances are there might already be a thread on this but I couldn't find it. Point me to it if there is one.

What I want to ask is; have any of you got Facebook pages for your comics and if so what do you post on there? Do you make sure it's different from what you put on your twitter or blog pages? Or is cross posting OK?

On my DeviantART page I put up concept art and my comic, but I always make sure when ever I put up the comic that it is always about 10 pages behind whatever is on the main site.

I guess what I'm worried about is how to make the Facebook site interesting while still making people who see it want to come along to my main comic site.

Well the basic thing to do is just to post a link to your latest update. If you have readers who are on Facebook a lot they'll be able to see your Facebook update notification pop up in their Facebook news stream or whatever it's called.

I think it depends on why you have Facebook. If you're just telling people you updated, then tell them you updated. Or have a picture of the comic. If it's your character's Facebook page, then they should post about their fictional day or whatever like real people do.

Yeah, I mostly just use it for update links. So people can click straight to the new page when I've updated. Other than that, I sometimes post concept art and teaser pages of upcoming issues.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll be telling them when I've updated, but I'd also like to try and make it a bit more than a glorified RSS feed so some concept art and teaser pages, maybe some pages from my sketchbook . . .

I let my Twitter followers know whenever I've updated with a new page, but not Facebook. Twitter followers are a dime a dozen in a certain sense... 90% of people you follow will follow you back even if they never look at your site. Facebook followers on the other hand, actually took the time to both go to my site and look at it for long enough that they were willing to 'like' it. So I figure those folks are actual fans of the comic, and already know when it updates. Thus, constant update reminders might be a bit annoying for them. But... that's just me imagining what's going on in peoples' heads, so YMMV.

I basically just use Facebook and twitter to announce updates.
If I conversation should start, I'll be happy to encourage it, but I won't try to start any. I've tried asking questions in the past and never got any answers.

ditto! i should probably do more with mine but im soooo lazy. I give twitter a lot of attention but i should probably put some teaser art for the next chapter on the facebook page - hmmmmmm.

Of the three main networking services I use--Facebook, Twitter, and Google+--Facebook definitely feels the most "formal" to me, so I too tend to do less quicky or chat posts there; whereas if I have a link or a dumb joke or something I think some people might enjoy, I hesitate a lot less to throw it up on Twitter (and sometimes G+, although more for the interesting link type of thing than the dumb jokes).
