For some reason, I've always found it fascinating to know about people's ideas on who they would cast to play the characters in theoretical movies based upon their webcomics. Would you pick a cast of unknowns? Would you go with A-Listers? Would you pick good actors or pick actors that fit your characters regardless of talent. I am really curious. If I haven't read your webcomic, that's okay, post your link so I may check it out.

Here's my personal list of people I would choose to play some on my characters on Rasputin Barxotka.

Camello: A bleached-blond and short-haired Jason Momoa – Muscular, uber manly and, he has the right type of facial structure. My character really does have a weird face, so I need someone with an equally distinctive face. The fact that Momoa can act is a nice bonus, especially since Cam is such a complex character.

Lucky: Long-haired and mustachioed for the younger version and, aged for the older version, Javier Bardem is my number one choice. His look, semi-evil/indifferent attitude attitude and Spanish heritage make him especially suited for the role. He also has the acting chops necessary to pull off a superficially charming, hypocritical, vulnerable, haunted and ultimately selfish character. Seriously Bardem totally excels at tormented.

Teen and Young Adult Marlborina: Genelia D’ Souza’s cute sassiness can easily help her pass for a much younger person. Her Indian heritage also make her an excellent choice to play a Rromani character. Genu’s ability to successfully pull off a great sense of romantic chemistry with a much older actor without coming across as sleazy also helps.

Older Marlborina: A short-haired Penelope Cruz. Name recognition aside, Penelope’s resemblance to Genu, her acting ability and her marriage to Javier Bardem, makes her a no-brainer choice for this role

Mikhail: I physically modeled him after business oligarch Dmitry Rybolov, so naturally I can’t think of a better person to play him. Since Mikhail is fairly wooden, acting ability is not necessary.

Sasha: I honestly can’t think of anyone better than slender twink porn star Brent Corrigan with blue contacts and a curly wig to play the part Sasha. This guy’s bad boy street credentials speak for themselves, he can sing and his sexual energy is undeniable. His pechant for unusual gay-oriented roles and his surprisingly decent acting ability seal the deal. And when he is in a campy mood, he can be the adorable cheeseball that is Sasha.

Zoya: Marta Peterson is a risky choice for the tarty drummer/keyboardist, as she’s an unproven actress. Yet, she has the look and could potentially exude a drugged up bimbo vibe with the help of an acting coach. A basic drumming crash course, and her experiences as the keyboard player for Bleeding Through give her the muse needed to bring the character to life. I like this girl and I believe that she has what it takes to make the part work.

Dmitri: Russian Idol winner Amarhuu Boorhuu’s singing ability and fantastic stage presence are the icing on top for this casting choice. Although he is completely unproven as an actor, I would be willing to take a chance on him because strikes me as easy to work with, he shares Dmitri’s Buryat heritage and he has a a fantastic rock and roll look. With a bit of beard, some fangs and an attitude, I am pretty sure that this boy would have a blast playing a brooding and intimidating villain-type.

Tsar: Casting Camello’s brother-in-crime is an insane challenge. The actor for this role requires an aura of sleazy charm and he absolutely must be a competent gymnast who can dance. As if that weren’t enough of an obstacle to finding qualified actor, the person who plays Tsar must also be able to successfully play a vengeful thug who really just wants to settle down and be happily married. Valeriy Nikilaev is not well known in the United States, but he really has the right vibe and he is a bonafide star in Russia, which would add a bit of extra cultural realism to the character.

Getter: Charlize Theron‘s acting range is absolutely phenomenal and her filmography speaks for itself. Charlize also oozes sexual confidence; a must for playing a high class prostitute like Getter. As if that weren’t great enough, this actress can pull off an action role like a boss.

Tatiana: The busty barmaid seems often seems to vacillate between dramatic intensity and comic relief as Camello’s confidant and overzealous fan girl. Naturally any actress playing this role must be able to have a wide range, as well as as Tatiana’s uniquely exotic look. Veteran actress Courtney Ford, fits the bill perfectly.

Superkiller: The first person I thought of for bringing to life my vision of this character was Tom Cruise. I hate Tom Cruise and the guy is too old and annoying for the role of the introverted and overachieving young assassin. So, instead I searched for a younger look-a-like with action film chops and mixed martial arts skills. Honestly, there’s no contest. Beefcake Sean Faris is the only guy who can play Superkiller, as far as I am concerned. I am not totally impressed by this young man’s acting skills, but considering that Superkiller is less talk and more action, he would probably be able to pull it off.

Romeo Julietta: It was shamefully easy to choose the best actor for role of the Nicotash tribe’s chieftain. When I designed Romeo, I imagined him as British Rromani actor Bob Hoskins with a hat, a tacky gold chain and a toupee. Hoskins’s general “fuck you” attitude is perfect for the character, and his Rroma doesn’t hurt either. He’s brings me a lot of nostalgia and he’s a fantastic actor to boot.

Gloria: Oscar-winning actress Christina Ricci might seem like a weird choice to play Camello’s mostly toothless and always combative wife, but she’s perfect. If you’ve seen her in Monster, it’s easy to see how she can transforme from her glamorous leading persona lady to a poverty-stricken hot mess in an abusive relationship.

So who would you choose to play the characters in your theoretical movie?

I would want CGI for Roosevelt:

like this that was sent to my by everyone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zJWA3Vo6TU
and have Jorge Garcia (Hurley from LOST) provide the voice.

MegaBabe would be played by Rosario Dawson ideally.

Mood Ring would be played by Robert Wisdom.

Gram Gram would be played by Doris Roberts.

I would rather have an animated film (preferably classic\2D, not 3D) than a live one. I guess I would like Arnold Schwarzenegger dubbing the troll haha, even if just for grunting and screaming "arrrghhhh!"

It'll be funny.

Jazz and Jess would absolutely HAVE to be animated, unless it was some sort of mixture, like the Offspring's video for 'Hit That'.

The Casual Notice Movie

Penny - Reese Witherspoon
Scot - Paul Rudd
Diana - Connie Britton (or Cameron Diaz)
Steve - Steve Buscemi
Michael - Adam Baldwin
Petal Oak - Mila Kunis (or Zoe wannamaker or Reba McIntyre...maybe all three)
Dead Bill - Topher Grace
Voice of Phil the Squirrel - George Clooney

Schmookie (and Phil) would have to be CGI.

Directed by Sam Raimi

HamsterRage: Robert Wilson as Mood Ring is the best casting choice... EVER! And you're right CGI would kick butt for Roosevelt and a lot of the action. I totally see it translating well.

iaviv: LOL!!! Arnold Schwarzenegger as the troll would be hella funny. I totally can picture the animation for Stupid Snake as something from early era Miyazaki, except without the anime. I would seriously pay to see that movie.

natephoenix: Your Offspring video is apparently not viewable in the United States. Sad

Casual Notice: I can totally see that, although the triple casting for Petal Oak is amusing the hell out of me. Would you rotate them throughout the movie?

Depending on Raimi's liquor supply, they might swap out within the same scene.

Casual Notice: Then I suppose you have to include open bar liquor store in his rider for maximum effectiveness.

JakobVirgil: FACT: Eddie Murphy in make-up can play anyone and anything.

I noticed recently that my main character bears some resemblance (or is it the other way around, eh whatever) to Swedish pop singer September

So maybe her. Of course I have no idea if she can act but hey she's in the entertainment industry, she's probably got that covered.

If I could cast really anyone I would like, it would be...

Ariane: Yvonne de Carlo in her early twenties

Uncle Greedy: Charles Laughton in his late 50ies or early 60ties

Dr. Weisenstein: maybe Alec Guiness in his 50ties? Not to sure yet. Maybe Martin Landau instead.

Richie: Rizzo from the muppets.

The Red String: Ray Harryhausen and some red wool.

As for the director: Richard Lester in his best times.

For the soundtrack: I have a pile of records and reels for that.

I can't see my comic (From the Machine) in anything other than old-school 2D animation. Not made on the computer either; I find that CGed 2D ends up too crisp and clean, loses some of that hand-made quality... though I might use CG for the effects, as a different way of portraying the contrast between greyscale and colour within the comic.

Whoops, that ended up being more about animation technique than casting. xD;; Um... I don't know enough voice actors to pick them, and I don't have a clear idea of what the characters' voices should sound like-- the Soldiers speak very formally and with little emotion, and Treedude would have to sound pretty androgynous... and Shadi's VA would need to be able to sing, of course. I'd also want to give the different nationalities different accents, but I'm not sure exactly how that would work given that FM doesn't take place on our earth and they're not meant to represent real nationalities.

The most fun I have when writing my stories is finding actors who would represent my characters, here are some of the ones I would pick for my series ORDER.

Daniel - Common from Smoking Aces
Cassidy - Edward Norton from Fight Club
Lucas - Joseph Gordan Levitt from Inception
Priest - Ewan McGregor from Angels and Demons
Apache - Javier Bardem from No Country for Old Men

I'd watch that for sure
