For me, yes. They have paid more and have been lower maintenance than three other ad services I have tried.

My site does get a high number of page views per reader, though (about 20, currently), which I suspect has something to do with it.

I hated it. Project Wonderful is so much easier to manage and you get your money every day. Google makes you wait until you have X amount of dollars.

$100 not an amount web comics make very quickly. (at least not mine)
I use adsense not for the income but for google analytics which I find interesting.
But I am not exactly "profit oriented"

Do you mean using the service to advertise, or putting ads on your site?

The former depends on how much money you're willing to put forth. I don't feel like it's worth it, but it's a personal choice. Ultimately the appeal of your comic will be what keeps readers, not how much you advertise.

Ad services usually pay by number of hits, if I understand correctly-- it's probably not worth putting ads on your site if you're just starting out, because your site won't earn enough to be worth the time.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
about a dollar a day. with av 405 visits a day.
too prominent placements of ads can also confuse and alienate readers.
