I saw it in french and all i can say is that tintin has a french accent and not an belgian accent but that's probably for the bether...it would sound weird with an belgian accent.

So I was watching ads for the new CGI/Motion capture film, Tin Tin, and I couldn't help but wonder, why do all the characters froma French comic speak with a British accent?

EDIT: My apologies, Belgian comic.

Most likely because when Tintin was originally translated into English, the translators changed some of the locations from Belgian to British (setting Marlinspike Hall in Marlinshire, England for example). Since that's the version that most English-speaking Tintin fans have read, I suppose it seemed logical to go with British accents for the movie.

France doesn't really seem to exist in America (at least for the past 10 years or so) so using French accents would have made people wonder about that strange land we once all knew...

To be fair, didn't the BBC and various Shakespeare movie adaptations start this trend? I doubt that Ancient Romans sounded British, either.
