It's that time of year again!
The end of summer means that bored and unemployed ComSci majors have completed their summer asshole project and will be inflicting them on us all once again. The depressed economy adds to that with the double whammy of more "professional" scammers and lower diligence on the part of ad companies.
One particularly annoying piece of malware does a good job of pretending to be Windows Security (although it calls itself Vista Home Security). There's a good rundown on how to manually remove it at
2-spyware, but I also gather that Malwarebytes can yank it out as well.
Needless to say, if you're browsing the net and your chosen webpage disappears to pull up a message from "security Manager" or anything like that reporting that you have multiple pieces of malicious software on your machine, odds are that you have only one,and it's talking to you.
