Hi All,

Just a quick query for the artists amoungst us. I have some paid work for a 16 page children's book that has become available and I was hoping someone might be interested in providing a quote.

I have received invaluable help on my graphic novel project from members here, so I thought I would ask if there was anyone who was looking for this kind of work.

I know the etiquette is to attach the writing to my post, but it's a lullaby I wrote for my daughter so I thought I would save myself the embarrassment of posting something mushy if artists posting here were not interested in this kind of project Embarassed

I will however post the writing in full, and an email to send a quotation to if there is any interest. Alternatively if there is a more appropriate forum I should be posting on I welcome any suggestions.

Thank you for your time.

Shane

Depending on how complicated what you want is, 16 full-colour illustrations would run you somewhere between $2000 and $10,000. This is assuming that you are doing work-for-hire, plan to keep all the rights and are looking for a pro or semi-pro artist.

B&W would cost somewhere between $1200 and $5000.

Seeing as they're both remarkably close right now, you'd only save $20-$100 if it was Canadian. But I meant USD.

Hi All,

Thank you for your posts. I am very glad there is interest in this project. As promised I have attached the writing below along with an email address for quotations. I have also added a little story board of ideas I had for the artwork but being a non-artistic person please note that they are suggestions only.

Important Info: I will respond to all emails successful and unsuccessful alike. Payment will be made in USD to a nominated bank account (if I ever get PayPal working properly that is an option also). Payment will be made as each page is completed for safety of artist and writer.

Obviously I will be looking at cost vs quality as the selection criteria. I didn't mention this before but there is a publisher attached to this project (Imaginites) so royalties are an option if you would like to place both options on your quote.

I think that is everything you would need to know but please feel free to ask about anything I have neglected to mention.

A Daddy’s Lullaby
Rest now little angel
close your weary eyes
The world is safe in slumber
as darkness takes the skies

Your day has been a long one
in a place we made unkind
But a sleeping world awaits you
born of unsoiled minds

A land that's pure with pleasure
where toy stores line the streets
The wind is cool and gentle
and soft grass strokes your feet

Where flowers dance in meadows
and nothing brings you harm
You feel only contentment
You’re safe in daddy's arms

The moonlight falls and shimmers
like ribbons through your hair
The starlight marks your pathway
and helps to guide you there

You're loved with no conditions
every movement makes us proud
We hang on every footstep,
every moment, every sound

So dream now little angel
of the paths your life might take
And sleep safe in the knowledge
I'll be here when you wake

And though our lives will take us
through days both good and bad
you'll always be my princess
and I’ll always be your Dad.

Job offers like this should also always be posted on ConceptArt and DigitalWebbing if you want more replies.

Hello All,

Just a quick note to thank everyone who submitted their interest in this project. Our panel has now decided on the successful artist for this project and we are moving forward with the book.

To the unsuccessful applicants we appreciate your efforts. The talented work we received was overwhelming and the decision was by no means easy.

You should have received an email from me by now but please feel free to follow up with me if you need to. I wish you every success in the future.

Kind regards

Shane

Artists need to feel like they aren't filling in application forms for monotonous jobs.

Yeah. You basically came along to ask for help because you couldn't find someone to illustrate your book. Then you post this BS rejection letter nonsense about your "panel" and "unsuccessful applicants" and "I wish you every success in the future."

So, yeah. " Rolling Eyes "

Each artist was responded to personally as well.
We saw this as a polite way to end the thread and thank people for their interest. No offense was intended
