Monster Zero is one year old today. I am proud of this. Just thought I'd get that out.

In my desperate struggle to evolve and speed thing up I've been messin' around with some new approaches for Monster Zero. Below is a series of doodles and page composition experiments with an even looser and more abstract style than what I've used in the past. I'm trying to change without alienating folks that actually like how things already look.
My main reason for doing this it workload. I've had an increase in design projects and I'm afraid I'll not find the time for M-zero if I can't find a quicker approach. I've come to far to stop so I trying to streamline everything.
All of these samples are completely digital. If any of you lovely people can give me some feedback I'd greatly appreciate it. Personally I like how this stuff looks but I don't want to loose the vibe of the comic. Let me know what you think.
Thanx

Dude... the new all digital stuff still rocks! It actually looks a little "cleaner" but still has the grit and grime that I like about your drawing style. I really like the scratchy effect you have, with the whites looking "scratched-out" of the blacks. _________________ nothinghappenedtoday.com |

Those look sufficiently similar to your style up to this point that I don't think your readers will have any cause to complain.
I prefer the ones that don't have halftones overlapping the black brushy stuff; I find the collision of the two different dot patterns hard to read, and anyway the black stuff feels much more organic and meaningful to the drawing. _________________ |

Sweet character designs, especially the hot chick. Some look as if you drew them with charcoal and smudged 'em with your hand. Wondering if this is intentional, that's all. _________________ |

I checked it out -- again, awesome linework and shading!
By the way - that fan art had me laughing my ass off!
Congratulations again on the one-year anniversary! Our comics are about the same age. _________________ nothinghappenedtoday.com |

Thanks again guys! I realize that was sort of a do-over post considering I'd already made mention of my one year mark. I just didn't have the poster done the frist time so I had to post it up here again. I'm really not trying to milk it, I swear!
nothing- Glad you dig it man! I kept remembering how you said you liked The Prophecy so much (it's one of my favorites too) and I couldn't resist doin a Christopher Walken appearance. It's been in my head from the time you posted the comment. Probably only funny if you've seen the movie but still, as long as you got it then mission accomplished!
dpat- You did already say that but I still appreciate it nonetheless. _________________ |
