|
|
Hey everyone,
I recently added my new web comic/graphic novel to the webcomicslist.
http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/comicstats.php?id=15964
It's called Urban Inferno. I have two chapters up right now. The Prologue which is 10 pages, and Chapter 1. Chap 1 I've only released 4 pages, will release 3 more every Thursdays.
It's also an audio book, fully voice acted with sounds. The art is hand drawn, mostly painted. It's narrated and the character dialogue is poetic, very cool stuff .
You'll need to install Microsoft silverlight to view the comic. Just go to the novel section, click on the chapter and it'll prompt you to install it. Very quick 2 minute one time install. Check it out

You seriously can't take 1 min to install microsoft silverlight? It's not a 3rd party application...It's a one time install, don't be lazy.
Yeah I'm working on a mute for the audio, no worries |

Okay I added a pause for the music just for you! At the bottom of the page, next to "Advertising" there's a red play pause button, press that to stop the music playing.
Now the least you can do is download Silverlight |

Asking somebody to download a program just to read your comic? It's never gonna happen.
Default music on a page is a nono, what if I'm in the library and I navigate onto your page? Embarassing.
Kail wasn't being lazy, he was acting the way any average webcomic reader would. In order to grab readers you need to open your website with something attention grabbing (usually the latest comic) and to keep them interested your website should be easy to navigate.
Your site design is really slick, but it's impractical, I hate slamming you because you've clearly put a lot of work into it, but the way it is now, I would head onto your site, maybe click through to the comic, see that I need some program to read it, then simply navigate away and find another comic to read.
Sorry if I'm coming across as a jerk, just telling you what I honestly think.
BTW Silverlight is a third party app for any Mac users.

You're not a jerk and you're allowed your own opinion, in fact thank you very much for sharing it (seriously it helps)
Few things
If you were in a library I'd assume sound would be off anyways? Also the comic has an audio score, meaning if you want to get full enjoyment from it you'll need to listen to audio, as it's fully voice acted.
I guess in reality, calling Urban Inferno a web comic is a false classification. It's a graphic novel audio book. It's 100% different than anything on the internet. I really would love to push this format into mainstream…what is there to lose?
Silverlight will be as big as Flash in the near future, it's basically Microsoft’s answer to flash. It now comes bundled with Vista/Windows 7, but I understand if installing is a 3rd party app is difficult for you. In all seriousness, it's a one time install, plus it's well worth it to check out my graphic novel, I assure you.
Urban Inferno uses a pretty cool page turner technology (built by Microsoft Silverlight, that's why you need to install it),...mixed with the audio it's a great experience...
Thanks guys

Quite like some Sin City or Dark Knight this site; is a well done presentation! I enjoyed the Prologue, the voicework, still had to give up on chapter 1, begins ugly nude. |

Thanks for the kind words.
Yeah I wanted the graphic novel to be very adult. I'm working on something right now that'll say which chapters have some nudity.
It's really 18+...Some type of content matter of one of the examples you named...Sin City |

This seems like a very elaborate technical exercise that has a comic inside it somewhere. Don't misinterpret that as an insult or anything. I admire what you're attempting in your approach. Kudos for that. New ideas are great when they work.
The design gives a wonderful feel to the material but makes it seem more like a film than a comic. There's too much glam here distracting your audience for no real purpose. The voice work is nice but, again, gives this a film vibe rather than a comic. The comic almost functions as a movie without a film.
Anyway, as I've said I do admire your design and approach. It reeks of a high technical skill but I think it's also overkill when it comes to a comic series. I say all this because I can see you want to tell your story the best way possible. I just think you should consider the idea of "Less is more". Maybe, even more so, possibly trying to film your story. You've nearly done everything else. Film might be the next logical step for this.
Just one dudes opinion, not the gospel. _________________ |
