The beauty of doing a DOUG parody is that you can parody a bunch of other stuff at the same time, because he's always daydreaming pop culture references.
a DOUG parody, where Doug becomes increasingly unstable in his late teens.
His imaginative daydreams of being a super-spy, a superhero, or other pop-culture references take a turn for the more violent and sinister, as Doug becomes increasingly bitter about his undeiniable social awkwardness, and inability to woo Patty after 5+years. Quail Man is replaced by a more brutal 90′s style hero, and Smash Adams is replaced with a grittier Bourne-esque guy.
Doug’s daydreams will become increasingly paranoid, delusional, and frequent untill the reader has a hard determining whether the scene they are reading is a daydream or reality.
The story culminates with Doug seriously pondering an act of actual violence against Roger Klotz, but at the last moment his inner child/conscience, as embodied by QUAIL MAN, talks him down and convinces him to seek help.
The entire story is an allegory for the need for kids to be on drugs!

I never watched that show, but I think I know what character you mean. What to make out of that idea?
"Doug Nukem" (for plenty of computer-game insider jokes, but that topic is rather shortlived.)
"Doug of New York" (Doug with eyepatch in postapocalyptic city...)
"Strontium Doug" (For some good comic reference. Along with his faithful anthropomorphic dog Woof Sternhammer.)
Sure there is more.

Umm, this would not change them much from what they already are? Well, most of them are not as bright as a nuke, but do at least that much of damage.

Some sort of KLOTZILLA-like phenom for the murky depths of sanity?

Crap! That other comic that I mentioned working is about teenagers crying because they got the wrong phone!
It's ok; fortunately, I've got an OTHER other comic.
So sorry. But I think I could enjoy a comic about teenagers who cry and rage because their new phone isn't good enough for some days until they are dropped into the northsea on a tiny raft by their parents for a realistic testing situation.

I think I was thrown off by the term "gorgon-into." So I just need to make a page a your Medusa character explainging what my strips are. I CAN DO THAT.
I also have this other comic that would probably be more appropriate for the theme of the mag... it's not done yet though, so I'll hold off.
Fine; I would be interested to see it.
You don't use that much color, i think you could convert your work to greyscale with not that much loss. Sadly some of the comics I think that would fit quite well (The "Snail Factory" for example, or others I like) would be ruined if they loose their color.
Maybe the biggest problem is to find fitting comics and artists. Maybe it is helpful to list some I would really like to add and will ask if I can use some of their pages for the next stage in the project:
Vas Little Crow: Catnose (handdrawn ones)
Iaviv / Stupid Snake
Engine / Enginecomic
Moobyj / Monster Zero is go
Bipolar Billy / Same
Bob Shofield / Another Tower
I don't want to write down artists whose work I do not like. But as a general hint as absolute "no way":
- Pure stickart jokes,
- anything manga-like,
- stories about "cute" manga-fairies that look like paste-and-copy from a teenage browser game,
- sitcom routines based on daily casual life/ soap opera
- stories about teenagers who cry their eyes out because they got the wrong I-phone for birthday
- any "children say the funniest things"
- peanuts/ simpsons/ calvin & hobbes/ garfield/ etc - lookalikes
- videogame-based comics
- comics done with poser or using lots of virtual effects
- comics primaly based on relationship / school/ family
- anything Rap/ Hip Hop/ Skater- related

Gorgon-intro? You'll have to elaborate on that...
I'll be honest, I'm AWARE of Vampirella, but not FAMILIAR with it. Just let me know how many pages you want. If they have any color, I'll convert them! I can write my own intro, but I'm honestly super curious to see what someone else might say about my strips.
It is actually point I. and II. in the first post. Vampirella and many, many other comics borrowed the idea of the 1950ies E.C. Horrorcomics that introduced some characters who acted as host for the magazine and gave a short introduction of each comic. Vampirella improved this concept by giving the host her own strip. As Medusa Tanis Bava, the heroine of my Steampunk Gorgon-comic is the host of the magazine (Medusa's Mirror), she would introduce each short comic. Of course it is wittier if each artist draws the introduction in his own style. (I admit it would be fun if some other do this for others, too. But I would prefer if not all intros would be done by me.)

This sounds like a nifty idea, I'm suprised no one has posted in this thread.
Actually, many comics would not fit into the categories I'm asking for (point IV). It is probably the best idea to PM some more artists I'm thinking off.
How many pages per artist? I would think about 3 to maximal 6 pages for excerpts of long, continuing stories (they don't have to start with page one, but should go on chronologic then) and 1 page for single cartoons/jokes.

As it will be a free downloadable pdf, I have no idea what kind of readers we will have and if they like it, but I don't worry, as the basic idea is to produce something in the style of the 1970ies post-underground magazines who combined the work of multiple artists and styles. If you recall such magazins like Vampirella or Heavy Metal, there where probably some artists and works you loved and some you hated, and that's just allright.
But we will need some more then two artists, I will ask some people whose work I have seen in here when I have a little more time. And, it is nice if the contributurs do their own gorgon-intro. (If not, you might just get one by somebody else.)

I was cut from internet for some days now (construction workers cut the cable) and are a bit short of time for the next two month, but the magazine would not be a weekly thing; it is intended as a printable booklet containing works of different artists. (Not complete comic novels, but some pages of longer stories and some single page/ cartoon stuff.) So it would not appear on a regular schedule, but be downloadable as soon as there is enough stuff together for the first issue. Of course your strip should be in black&white (rules) then.

Uncle Greedy, if you are still doing this, I'll participate.
I do a page a week (I have a day job) of my comcis and try to work on side-projects when I can.
I don't know how frequently you plan on this thing coming out, but I'll have a strip to contribute every week.
