Post subject: Seeking Artist // The Bomb: 6-page superhero spec
Hi all,
About Me:
I'm a writer that's had some success in short stories and poetry. A number of my pieces have been published or won awards in the years I've been active. My most recently completed work, "
The Dreadlock
," was a finalist in a big contest a few months ago.
Strangely, while most of my published work is rather literary, it's really genre stories (magical realism, sci-fi, fantasy) that I'm most passionate about. Over the years, I've written a number of full comic pilots and did a webcomic (The Further You Go, in case you might remember it), but because of responsibilities and timing, was never able to pursue those interests. I'm here to change that.
About the Project:
The Bomb
is a 6-page script designed to showcase our work. I've read that brief comics are the best way to break into the business, and like you, I want in! The story is short, but powerful. The dialog is tight and full of meaning. The panels are ripe with possibility for an artist to shine at conveying the character within these characters. I believe that the immensity and the interwoven nature of the different threads will make this the perfect project for expressing our value to the industry and the world.
Here's a sample of the writing:
Quote:
Panel 1. LS, EL
It's dark in Dr. Farver's bedroom. A blown-up cover of the New York Times hangs above the doctor's bed, framed. DOCTOR DEFUSES BOMB. The photo shows the two men, hands upraised, at a press conference. The doctor, now a silhouette against the string of floor-to-ceiling windows, leans up, shocked, his arms stretched out before him. The Bomb has just landed on his balcony with a thud.
DR. FARVER
Is it you?
Panel 2. LS, EL
The Bomb glows a faint yellow as he stands at the open glass door. He's in costume, his posture tight and tall. The doctor's head is in his hands, ashamed of what he did and drained from restless nights, never knowing when the Bomb would arrive, finally, to destroy him.
THE BOMB
You're a bad man, Dr. Farver.
DR. FARVER
I didn't do it for me.
The Right Artist:
The script calls for fighting, explosions, and a colorful tapestry of locations, but more than anything, this piece is about the characters. As such, the right artist for this project is ready to explore gesture, emotion, and embodiment.
In terms of style, I'm open to what you do best. Collaboration is mutual inspiration. Be inspired by my writing and inspire me with your interpretation. We'll inspire the world together.
So
send me a message
some links to your work. I'll send the script and we'll see if ultimately we're a match!
